Beto O'Rourke Insists America Doesn't 'Need Any Walls' Because They Solve 'A Problem We Do Not Have'

by Julio Rosas | Mar 21st, 2019, 11:41 am

While campaigning in New Hampshire, Beto O’Rourke told voters America does not need “any walls” because there is no crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border.

“I’m here to tell you a profoundly positive story from the U.S.-Mexico border. We do not need any walls, 30 billion dollars, 2,000 miles long, 30 feet high,” O’Rourke said. “It will not be built on the international boundary line, which is the center line of the Rio Grande river,” he continued. “That wall will be built well into the interior of someone’s ranch, someone else’s farm, someone else’s home to solve a problem we do not have.”

The former Congressman from El Paso has advocated to also tear down walls that are already in place at the border.

“If you could would you take the wall down now? Here? Like you have a wall. Would you knock it down?” MSNBC’s Chris Hayes asked him while in El Paso. The question was posed in response to a tweet from Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX):

“Yes,” O’Rourke replied. “Absolutely,” adding he thinks a referendum to do get rid of the walls would pass in the city.

In 2018, US News & World Report ranked El Paso number 11 in “best places to retire,” citing in part the community’s relative safety and thriving economy.
