Bannon Says Beto O'Rourke and Kamala Harris Are 'Most Dangerous Ticket for Trump'

Trump’s former campaign chairman talks 2020 during a Rome gathering of the right, comparing Hillary Clinton to a ‘vampire.’

Barbie Latza Nadeau

ROME—At first Steve Bannon looked a little out of place sitting at a massive desk inside the antique Angelica Library, a stone’s throw from Piazza Navona. But when one knows that scenes from Angels and Demons were filmed here, it starts to make a little more sense.

A guest of a conservative Italian group called Lettera 22, the former campaign chairman for Donald Trump, was here to talk about the importance of populism in upcoming European parliamentary elections but was happy to take a question on the 2020 U.S. elections.

“Beto on the ticket with Harris is the most dangerous ticket for Trump,” he said, referring to O’Rourke and Kamala Harris, who are running to unseat his boss.

“But don’t forget, the vampire is still alive: Hillary Clinton,” Bannon said. He then mused how someone might drive a stake through her heart.

Bannon, the former executive chairman of Breitbart News, saved his best vitriol for Chinese leader Xi Jinping, who happens to be in Rome as well.

His gauzy centrism which alienates some folks here and I can see why is what would make him a formidable general election candidate. Plus he's charismatic.

he's all sizzle and no steak. Yes, charismatic, rock star and all that. But he'd be up against a master showman who has already shown how to use personal popularity to do something that no one thought was possible. And now, Trump adds to that all the power of incumbency.

The skateboard and the dental hygiene thing make him look like a bit of a flake. Also, he is not a tough, gritty fighter, so far, and Trump will eat him up on a debate stage. He'll have a much tougher time with debating Sanders, Biden, Warren or Harris.
,
I see that your avatar is President Obama. Yes, he had the charisma, too, but he also came across as a serious person, ever mindful of keeping on message. A combination like that only comes around every 20-25 years or so. I would argue that Reagan had it to some extent, too.

I think a Harris-O'Rourke ticket would produce record-breaking Democratic turnout.

All this talk about needing to nominate a white male centrist in order to flip Trump voters in PA/MI/WI is utter nonsense. Way too much analysis is being based on a highly unique set of 2016 circumstances. Many factors were at play then that won't be in 2020. And way too many continue to buy into the false narrative about "white working class economic anxiety" leading to Trump's "win."

Turning out the base (particularly POC and young people) in greater numbers than in 2016 will be the key to winning in 2020. The sharp contrast of Harris-O'Rourke vs. Trump-Pence is what we need.

Donald Trumps 2 bit Rove.

Republican strategists trying to game Sen. Barack Obama's choice for a running mate are focusing more and more on the possibility that he might pick former House Majority Leader Dick Gephardt, a friend of labor and blue-collar workers. "Gephardt is the one we're most afraid of," said a key GOP strategist and Bush ally.

trump is worried about three possible Democratic nominees https://politicalwire.com/2019/03/24/the-democrats-trump-fears-most/

“President Trump has publicly boasted that he could beat any of his 2020 Democratic challengers. But privately, several members of the Trump campaign see a few who could pose a threat to his re-election, and are in the early stages of building out their strategy for attack,” Axios reports.

“The three candidates that seem to concern the Trump campaign most are Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and Beto O’Rourke. That’s in no particular order, and you’ll get a different answer depending on who you talk to.”

I think that any of these three could turn Texas blue
