Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI've never gotten involved in a Sanders based thread.
I was a Hillary supporter, but was glad he was around to give voice to stronger progressive ideas and excite younger voters. But I gotta say that the persistence of the tax reports issue is sinking in. Basically I'm thinking that it shows really poor judgement on his part to let it drag on so long. Why's he doing that? Pressure from his wife to keep their privacy maybe?
Just wondering,

(99,710 posts)Would it or wouldn't it logically follow that his decision would be as popular among Democrats as Trump's was?

(67,782 posts)At least four other candidates have released current tax returns at the time of their last election or in preparation for this election:
Kamala Harris - 2015 when she ran for Senate in 2016, no doubt will shortly add to that
Cory Booker - 15 years when he first ran for Senate in 2013, no doubt will shortly add to that
Kirsten Gillibrand - 11 years released prior to even announcing her candidacy
Elizabeth Warren - 10 years released prior to even announcing her candidacy (actually 8 months ago)
Each of these are "new" presidential candidates and have already released tax returns. But the one candidate who has ostensibly been running for 3 years has only released one tax return, and that was from two years prior to his last candidacy (not the most current at the time)
The longer it goes on the worse it looks.

(42,862 posts)It's the moral equivalent of PLEADING-THE-FIFTH... the fact that he refuses to release his full tax returns doesn't prove wrongdoing, but it sure is fishy... and it makes people wonder what's being hidden.

(7,410 posts)He has zero chance of winning the nomination for two glaring reasons:
1. He won't go into the convention with a majority of delegates which would be required to win in the first round.
2. If it goes to a second round of voting the super delegates will not select him.
No one can dispute those two facts so why does everyone care about his tax returns so much? He has no path to the nomination from day one of his campaign.
