Beating Trump vs Facing down crazy billionaires

My inclination is to support a candidate who is capable of facing down these crazy billionaires. My reasoning for this is that it’s income inequality that is causing polarization in the US and all over the world. There’s a famous Italian novel, “The Betrothed” that has an image of a man carrying live chickens to market, tied at their feet and hanging upside down. They’re pecking at each other instead of at their actual oppressor. I think that’s the source of the support for Trump at a very primal level and that a candidate who is able to face down the 1% would also gain sway at a primal level. Not necessarily the hard core of his base, but the Obama to Trump voters and more independent voters. Plus, I think the fate of our planet may rest on people who are willing to face down the resistance by the rich to doing something about climate change.

This may sound silly, but after I watched Crazy Rich Asians and then read the trilogy it was based on, it made me wonder if there’s a competition globally among billionaires and if they eye the countries with unregulated capitalism and more fascistic governments with envy. It gives them an edge in their plunder.

Also, I listened to Rutgers Bergman chastising people at Davos for not mentioning tax avoidance after thrilling to David Attenborough’s keynote address about the environment. And I heard his audio recording of his interaction with Tucker Carlson and subsequent interviews with progressives. I think it’s insights like his that should be guiding the Democrats during the primaries.

Who represents the status quo and who would be willing to stick to these progressive ideas? That’s what guides my decision. I’ve thrown in my support to Bernie, but I also trust Elizabeth Warren.

I’m also beginning to look at Buttigieg. I noted this quote from the current article in The Guardian on him:

‘Jill Filipovic, the author of The H-Spot: The Feminist Pursuit of Happiness and a Guardian contributor, said: “I really like Pete Buttigieg. He is intelligent. He is decent. He is curious.

“He says ‘I think that policy matters, I’m a policy guy,’ but all of his policies are basically [Senator Elizabeth] Warren’s (except less specific and less progressive). I wonder why he’s not working for her.”’

That’s ok with me. If his youth and midwestern credentials give him wider appeal than Sanders or Warren, I will support him if he gains traction. He’s very good at combating right wing slings without losing grace.

2. Exactly right, and which is my main reason to prefer her nomination.

There is no one else that has the knowledge of banking, wall street, and the courage to confront the ruling class of Billionaires like Elizabeth Warren.

This issue of the ruling class who controls almost all politicians through mega donations, is what is squeezing the hard working middle class. The ruling class makes bigger profits exporting manufacturing to foreign countries and importing cheap foreign labor to compete with Americans to keep wages down.

3. I love Elizabeth Warren

I donated to her campaign and then to Bernie’s when he announced. I don’t pretend to be as knowledgeable regarding the differences between the two, but people I trust say that Bernie is to the left of Warren, plus I supported him in 2016. But before he announced, I almost wished he wouldnt enter because of the lingering ill will from 2016 and then I also wouldn’t have to make a choice.

They say that Warren really shines on the campaign trail and that red state democrats enlisted her help quite a bit during their campaigns. I also note that she was endorsed by the PCCC.

I listened to a segment of Brian Lehrer’s WNYC radio show from March 20 devoted to Warren. It seemed like he was hearing a lot of comments from women saying that they liked her but thought that it would take a man to beat Trump. Again, not my direct knowledge, but I hear a lot of people say that she is a formidable fighter when it comes down to it. I hope she gains more traction because I think she’s brilliant.

I was also very impressed by Kamala Harris’ questioning of appointees during Senate confirmation hearings, but I lost heart when I heard she ran to the right of a judicial reformist in her attorney general race and that she advocated jailing the parents of children who skipped school. But she would be formidable against Trump.
