Buttigieg answers question from reporter in Norwegian

Prospective 2020 presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg (D) was seen on video answering a question from a Norwegian reporter in the country's language.

Speaking to reporters after an event in Columbia, S.C., the South Bend, Ind., mayor was recorded on video by a Washington Post reporter addressing a reporter in Norwegian.

The mayor, who earlier this year announced an exploratory committee for president, reportedly speaks seven languages in addition to English: French, Spanish, Italian, Norwegian, Arabic, Maltese and Dari.

The exchange comes days after "Winners Take All" author Anand Giridharadas wrote on Twitter that Buttigieg had taken him and his Norwegian friend by surprise at a campaign event by speaking to his friend in fluent Norwegian, explaining that he learned the language in order to read books by a Norwegian author.

But it can be 'turned into' a negative.

It's kinda like 'Stud'. Or 'Suave' ... it's not inherently negative ... but it can be turned into something 'bad-sounding'.

To me, perhaps 'professional' would be my optimal description for what I see out of the man so far. He's got it together.

I feel like his values are ingrained in 'who he is', which allows him to speak pretty effortlessly, and like you're unlikely to catch him with 'gotchas', i.e. things he hasn't thought about and come up with a personal opinion/position about, which he can espouse readily.

This is a very, very good quality to have as a politician.

I don't wanna go overboard esp. not this early but I'm a getting a 'special' kind of vibe from this guy.

Which is I suppose another word that can be taken in two different ways, but ... you know what I mean.

Obama is, in a lot of ways, kinda a more 'personally moral' version of Big Dog. Politically, they have a LOT of the same talents, I think.

Mayor Pete is not someone I could say is more like one than the other, but rather another person who I'm sensing has their shared talent, while still being very much his own man.

Bill had that, plus that kind of "guy at the bar-b-que" vibe that carried the less well-educated. No president is perfect, but we are all better off for having had each of them in office.

I totally agree that Mayor Pete is his own person while displaying talents similar to Big Dog and Obama. Mayor Pete has the potential to be a transformative, reprative leader. In hoping the best for him, I believe we are hoping the best for us all.

He's been amazing.
