Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI won't vote for a Democratic candidate in the primaries who sends a divisive message that divides
Democrats, whether by word or actions.
In my view we need a candidate who can unite DEMOCRATS, not divide them
The last thing we need is a candidate who divides Democrats.

(3,259 posts)Im all for pretty tough primaries. Specially at the Presidential level. Is highlighting your opponents vote on the Iraq war divisive? Is highlighting your opponents past vote against a pathway to citizenship divisive?
Its up to the nominee and those she beats to pull it all back together for the general. 😁
I am feeling really good that all but Sanders are the type of people who will pull it all together for the general. There are things they can do and say that will greatly influence their supporters to get behind the nominee. Most voters will anyways. Sanders history is clear. He works to build one coalition. His own.

Like another poster wrote, the only person in the field that I have concerns about getting onboard for the General if he is not the nominee is Bernie. Early signs are somewhat discouraging in that aspect.

(7,142 posts)none of them are pure if that's the test we are looking for, purity tests are what Republicans do.
I choose to not speak negatively about any of our candidates, they can fight it out among themselves in the primary.
If Bernie wins I will robustly support him and donate money to him. If he loses I will robustly support our winner and donate money to him/her.

(25,714 posts)I also want candidates to get the facts straight. The Democrat did not lose the last election because the party was only running against Trump. The opposite, the Democrat was set up as a caricature for people to vote against, not the Republican.

(12,344 posts)But his point was about messaging rather than reality. It's not that we had no policies to tout. It's that the policy was lost in our visceral hatred of Trump.

Or anyone who thinks their Ego is more important than our Planet.
I want a President who is inclusive, smart, courageous, and doesn't hire 3rd party "attack dogs" to divide our party.

Second, a lot of Bernie Sanders supporters werent big fans of Clinton. So Stein campaigning on the idea that Clinton and Trump were similar made it harder for Clinton to win over those voters even if Sanders voters didnt vote for Stein, they may have stayed home out of disgust.

(42,862 posts)I won't vote for any candidate who continually shits on the Democratic party by calling the party "corrupt" or "feeble" or "ideologically bankrupt". Or who insinuates that there's "no difference" between Democrats and the GOP.
That kind of negative talk serves NO good purpose at all. Negativity generates apathy. Apathy discourages voter turnout. Low voter turnout gives Republicans a chance to steal the elections.

(58,785 posts)All our candidates have pledged to commit themselves to electing a Democrat to the presidency and other Democrats to hundreds of other offices. That starts now, not after a year of lies, smears and other hostile attacks.
