Sanders slams GOP 'hatred' on health care in hearing

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Wednesday slammed Republicans over health care policies in their proposed budget, going after what he claimed to be a “hatred” of providing health coverage.

(snip)

“I frankly do not understand why Republicans seem to have such a hatred toward providing health care to the American people,” said Sanders, who serves as ranking member of the panel.

Sanders was referring to the Senate GOP budget proposal, which assumed a complete repeal of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

(snip)

Sanders said the budget, if implemented, would also cut funds to nursing homes, pregnant women and new mothers, education and Social Security.

“I’m impressed by what you’re able to read into my budget,” Sen Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.), the chairman of the panel, said with a chuckle.

“Accurate,” Sanders replied.

in a purely symbolic measure which will only be brought up for vote by the Senate on the same day McConnell allows a vote to make the Mueller Report public, in other words never.

As the ranking minority member on the Senate Budget Committee, where Bernie has actual influence to shape the upcoming legislation, Bernie is defending the ACA's positive aspects while simultaneously putting the Republicans on the moral defensive.

Their draconian budget policies are based on an inexplicable hatred of providing health care to the American Nation, no other advanced nation on Earth treats its citizens as fodder for the wealthy and powerful.

He clarified when he said NO that he supported no legislation other than his own version of MFA.

So what the fuck do people do in the meantime? We can’t get MFA today, but there is a chance we can make the ACA stronger today and save lives.

He is against that? Said he wouldn’t vote for it if it came to the Senate? Screw that. He needs to get off the stage. He undermines Democrats and the party all the time.

Nothing the house does will strengthen the ACA before 2020, not with McConnell and not with Trump.

The Republicans overreach in killing the ACA and/or starving it of funds can be fought in the public sphere, which Bernie is actually doing most adeptly.

As for what Bernie will vote for in the Senate depends on what final budgetary legislation makes its' way through, until that happens any prognostications are futile.
