Youth-led climate group endorses Sanders for president

(snip)

"Bernie Sanders knows that winning a world with social, racial, economic, and environmental justice...a world in which we stop climate change, create millions of good jobs, and enact a new social contract for the 21st Century through a Green New Deal — cannot be achieved by one President or even the government on its own," it added.

A clear majority, 76 percent, of Sunrise Movement's members voted to endorse Sanders, the organization said in a statement. The candidate with the second-greatest support was Warren, who was favored by 17.4 percent of the group's membership.

The Sunrise Movement cited Sanders's "political courage," "holistic vision of the future" and "his commitment to building a cross-class, multi-racial movement" as reasons members voted for Sanders.

(snip)

The Vermont senator, in his Green New Deal climate plan, calls for achieving 100 percent renewable energy for electricity and transportation by 2030 and decarbonization of the economy by 2050. He has also called for a $16 trillion investment in fighting climate change.

1. I don't think you now what genre means. And I don't really know how you are attempting to apply it figuratively here. I get that it's insulting, though, so at least the tone came across.

2. Do you think this attitude toward the youth vote (which is the largest block of voters very shortly if not already) is going to get them to want to vote? Because it won't.

You probably want to stop using that word. I really can't think of which word you mean, either. Generation? Genre makes no sense.

I think they see it more like "there isn't much difference between 5% and 0%. But you do you.

genre = category, style, fashion, brand, character, kind, sort, school, group, classification, class, genus etc. etc.

Several of those apply in my case although average people only use it for artistic styles like music.

For the record, I did not find your definition in any of the main US dictionaries. The inclusion of "group," if it exists in a definition that I did not see, is not like a social movement or group of people but more like the "genus" that you include.

Applying genre to an age group makes very little sense even figuratively.

My kid's take: Biden is not connecting well to Gen Z voters. He's seen as a Boomer. Boomers are by Gen Z as the root cause of climate change, student loan debt, and a host of social injustice. Also, as you allude, the Boomers constantly crapping on them has gotten old.

My kid says that they don't like Steyer either - the only Billionaire most would consider is Yang.

My fear is that the youth throw up their hands in disgust and don't show up. That would pretty much hand Trump a 2nd term.

Shitting on them about voting isn't going to make them want to vote.

I do have discussions about civic engagement (teach communication) and talk about the voting block power they will have to make change if they vote. I do let them know that means they have to vote in primaries, too, so they can have impact on who will be runngin for office.

I'm about as old as you can be and still be Gen X. I have grown up with Baby Boomers, taught Gen X, Millennials, and now Gen Z. I love this generation. They are awesome, passionate, and want things to get better.
