Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumIt is the voters, stupid
(for the sensitive youngsters here, this is a take on Clinton's 1992 slogan "it is the economy, stupid" ).
I watched some of the Sunday talk shows, read some commentaries and, of course read posts here. And I am having hard time understanding the hand wringing of so many about the lack of a clear front runner. How, for now, both IA and NH are a tight three-way race.
Yes, I know, the professionals want to have a front runner, soon, to allow, I think, funds to be funneled to him/her.
But we have yet to cast a single vote! So, please, it is not about the money; it is about the voters. Let the citizens of IA and NH and then NV and S.C who may upset the IA and NH results, and then Super Tuesday and then start talk about front runner. But not before that. Please?

(12,265 posts)This kind of field takes a lot of money out of what could be spent on the general. That is what worries me. I love many of our candidates, including the one you support, but we need the field down to a reasonable size before much longer. He is not having to spend any money in the primaries, he is just sitting there counting it as it rolls in, while we watch ours roll out. Making the Iowa tv and radio stations rich.

(439 posts)I can think of Democratic primary candidates who do better among young voters than other Democratic primary candidates.

(2,657 posts)At least three people have a real shot a winning. Joe Biden does because he's been leading the whole time. Sanders and Warren have a real shot because at any time, their supporters could consolidate over one or the other and jump ahead Joe Biden. Any way you slice it, there are at least three people who can win. People can talk about front runners and favorites all they want. However, no one really knows how tightly Warren fans will stay with Warren, how tightly Sanders fans will stay with Sanders, and where the roughly 35% who are not supporting the top 3 will end up putting their votes. No one knows for sure.
Here's one thing I can tell you. If you are a betting person, and you put your money on someone other than the top 3 of Biden, Warren, and Sanders, you will probably lose. Steyer and Yang don't seem to be gaining enough traction to win. Bloomberg's support for Stop and Frisk will probably stop him from winning the nomination. Bennet and Delaney can't even make it to a debate. Odds are it will be one of those three, and since at any time, Sanders and Warren can stack their delegates by opting for a President/Vice President combo, we may not know for sure for a while.

(38,958 posts)watching the Sunday Blathering shows and the commentaries. Make up your own mind based upon what you believe to be the best, vote the way you wish and things will sort themselves out.
The media thrives on the horse race narrative to fill airtime between ads for drugs we never knew we needed. I don't waste my time on the infotainment nonsense.
