Buttigieg's record of action with communities of color

A post on DU this morning - linking to an article in “Current Affairs” cooled my excitement about Buttigieg somewhat - the article is extremely negative.

I found the Current Affairs article to be thought-provoking even though many of the author’s arguments sounded specious to me. For example, the author describes concerns about how some of his signature policies may have impacted communities of color, although they offered no specific information (quotes from residents) or evidence that the policy actually had a negative impact - on rate of evictions, for example. Further, comparing SB CoC to the rest of the nation may be fair and/but should be accompanied with some information about the communities before and after the mayor.

As he has said, he was re-elected with 80% of the vote and won every majority-minority district so he must be doing something right.

In any case, I need more info about Pete. I found an article on Ebony with some information from him - I think it is worth a read:

Good thing he let us know upfront that he doesn't like smart, ambitious, successful people. I would hate for someone like that to be President.

Before I dive into Shortest Way Home’s account of the life and career of Peter Buttigieg, let me be up front about my bias. I don’t trust former McKinsey consultants. I don’t trust military intelligence officers. And I don’t trust the type of people likely to appear on “40 under 40” lists, the valedictorian-to-Harvard-to-Rhodes-Scholarship types who populate the American elite. I don’t trust people who get flattering reams of newspaper profiles and are pitched as the Next Big Thing That You Must Pay Attention To, and I don’t trust wunderkinds who become successful too early. Why? Because I am somewhat cynical about the United States meritocracy.

You are going to see more "posts" that attempt to cast him in a bad light. Heck, you might even see one saying that he purposely musses his hair to look rugged. Mayor Pete got to close to someone in polls, so the long knives came out.

When he announced I only had a vague idea of him from the DNC chairman race. Went to his Wikipedia page and it listed multi events with him siding with the police Department against African American community.

A week later someone scrubbed all the references. So it been hard to find article about those interaction with AA community or BLM activist.

I expect there will be frustration expressed no matter what he has done, but I want to know where this issue is in his priorities.

In the radio interview linked below I learned more - he is talking about racial inequities having been created intentionally so they will have to be addressed intentionally.

If he ran with Booker or Harris (with Pete as VP) or Abrams (as his VP) - because they are closer in age and experience - that would make a difference.
