THAT EVERYONE TALKS ABOUT, POLITICAL ANALYST SAYS.
'Political analyst Jammal Simmons has suggested that when it comes time for the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates to debate, Pete Buttigieg is the one who will be the hot topic of conversations.
I think Mayor Pete Buttigieg is going to be the factor on the debate stage that we will all be talking about afterwards, Simmons said Sunday on CBS News Face the Nation. Hes somebody whos willing to say what he thinks.
Simmons then pointed out that while Buttigieg the 37-year-old mayor of South Bend, Indiana may be the youngest person exploring a 2020 bid, he seems to be among the most mature.
Hes coming at this with values. Hes putting policy on the table, the commentator explained. Hes a very strong campaigner.
Although the Democrat, who announced his exploratory 2020 campaign in January, has admitted that his run is a longshot, he has been gaining in the polls after a series of high profile media appearances. A week ago, Buttigieg jumped to third place in an Emerson poll of the Ioawa caucus, behind former Vice President Joe Biden and Independent Senator Bernie Sanders. The mayor came in with 11 percent support, compared to Bidens and Sanderss respective 25 percent and 24 percent.
An average of national polls by Real Clear Politics shows Buttigieg polling in seventh place overall with 2.2 percent, above numerous other high-profile candidates. The latest Quinnipiac survey also showed him polling at 4 percent, tied with Senator Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts. An editorial published by CNN earlier this month also hailed Buttigieg as the hottest candidate in the 2020 race right now, comparing his rise on the national stage to that of former President Barack Obama.
Discussing the young mayors rapidly growing national profile, his communications adviser Lis Smith told CNNs Reliable Sources on Sunday that the goal has been to get Buttigiegs message out there and talk to people where they are.'>>>

(149,611 posts)I am really looking forward to seeing/watching those debates!
I suspect, based on what I've seen of him responding to interviewers so far, that he will do well. If he does, there's no telling where this will take him.
He is still a long shot..........but less so all the time.

(4,919 posts)I'm head over heels for Mayor Pete. But, I haven't seen him give a speech. Only interviews or town halls. If anyone has a link, I'd appreciate it.
Not wearing a jacket is his thing, but at least he doesn't stand on eating surfaces with HIS SHOES ON!

(25,183 posts)that in the early debates, most candidates will not get a sufficient chance to get their message out. The media will focus on gaffes and attacks.
