(151,267 posts)The point was the vote totals, really. That's going to be a problem for Sanders going forward. There are some strong candidates who all seem to take moderate positions and pretty much support the same ideas and policies. In fact, all of them seem to have read and are following the Democratic Party platform right down the line.
I think it's an interesting exercise to add up the poll and election results by political position when I'm thinking about where these primaries are going in the future. We have Buttigieg, Klobuchar, Biden, and now Bloomberg, all solidly in the middle politically in terms of Democratic positions. Add them all up. Then compare the totals for, say Sanders and Warren, and see how it all stacks up.
I like looking at numbers, early in a primary season. Who stands where and how are their total numbers?

We won't destroy drumpf decisively if the African American community isn't energized. And so far Amy (my #1) and Pete have little support from black voters. Stacy Abrams as veep?

(151,267 posts)Right now, we're just playing with numbers. Those numbers will change as we move into states that better reflect the country's population. Iowa and New Hampshire don't do that very well at all.
So, keep your eyes open. On March 4, we'll have a nice big pile of numbers to look through and talk about. So far, we have one scrambled up caucus state and one state with more non-declared voters than any other party. And both states are about as white as they can be. Only Vermont is whiter, and it doesn't really matter at the convention.

Loudest cheers of the night erupted here in Concord as a CNN graphic showed Klobuchar well ahead with white college-educated women."
"Katie Glueck, reporting from Manchester, N.H. 6m ago
Per exit polls, Amy Klobuchar is dominating with white college-educated women, a demographic with which Elizabeth Warren had previously been strong."

(11,996 posts)The president has not just disenfranchised good Republicans who feel passionately about principle and integrity and character, he has conducted himself in office in such a corrupt manner, people who left the party in 2016 have been given no reason to return to the Republican Party, she said.
There are now 3,807 more undeclared voters than there were on Nov. 8, 2016. The rise in undeclared, or independent voters, should be concerning to Republicans, said DeMers, because they are losing registrations at a much quicker pace than Democrats.
On Election Day in 2016, the GOP had 20,000 more registered voters than Democrats. At last count, on Dec. 31, 2019, the gap was 13,272.

(40,365 posts)"White college-educated women, a more specific subgroup, have moved even more Democratic in every key battleground state polled (including Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Missouri, Nevada, and Texas) and nationally since 2014. In 2014, white college-educated women voted for the Republican candidate by four percentage points more than the Democratic candidate, and in 2016, they supported both candidates equally. But in 2018, 59% of white college-educated women voted for a Democratic candidate in the House, 20-points more than voted for the Republican."
