Mike Bloomberg Is Doing One Thing the Rest Are Not

In his ads, which are running now wall-to-wall in the Super Tuesday states and soon in every other state, Mike Bloomberg is campaigning directly against Donald J. Trump. He isn't saying a word about any of the other Democratic candidates. He is featuring ideas that all Democrats pretty much have in common, but mostly, he is attacking Trump.

Meanwhile, in the overly crowded primary race, other Democratic candidates are laser-focused on why they are better than their competitors, whom they are trying to cast in a bad light. While I suppose that is necessary in a primary race, it's not so good for the overall goal of defeating Donald Trump in November. That generates bad feelings about our candidates in general.

Now that Mike Bloomberg is clearly a candidate for the Democratic nomination, the other Democratic candidates have now turned their sights on Bloomberg, even in states where he doesn't appear on the primary ballots at all. Bloomberg, on the other hand, has nothing bad to say about any Democratic candidate. He's attacking Donald Trump - again, and again, and again, while proposing ideas that will help Americans after Trump is gone.

If anyone wonders why Bloomberg has risen so quickly in the primary polling, that is it. Most primary voters aren't strongly committed to any candidate. That kind of commitment this early is only for those people who are always politically active. Most voters are not that way. But every Democrat and every other voter with any sense wants Donald Trump out of the White House. They agree with Mike on that point.

So, will Bloomberg's focus on getting rid of Trump end up making him the nominee? I don't know. Will his avoidance of criticism of other Democrats lead to better results in primary elections? Almost certainly it will. Will his campaign strategy resonate with voters for whom defeating Trump is the primary goal. Absolutely it will

Mike Bloomberg has said that he will continue running anti-Trump ads even if he does not become the Democratic nominee. If that is true, then he will be doing an enormous service to whoever gets that nomination, even if he does not. Mike Bloomberg is on your side if you feel that kicking Trump out of the White House is a good idea. He's on my side, because I think that is a more important goal than any other in 2020.

I don't know if Bloomberg really expects to be the nominee or the President. But, I'll tell you this: When it comes to my goals for the 2020 presidential election, and whether or not Mike Bloomberg wins the nomination:

I LIKE MIKE!

Mike Bloomberg is not the enemy. Donald Trump is.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Since it appears that he will finally be participating in a debate, he will have the opportunity to address and either defend or apologize for some of the less attractive aspects of his past. We need to hear what he says. The circular firing squad is a normal though irritating part of any primary season, and in some instances the candidates aren't as obnoxious as some of their spokespeople and supporters. Some candidates (*cough* Bernie *cough*) might want to try to cut off their followers' vitriol supply but it doesn't seem to be happening, unfortunately. In the meantime, Bloomberg keeps making ads that must be severely chapping His Lardship's ass. Obviously these ads are capturing voters' attention, too. I think Bloomberg must really hate Trump's guts and I wonder if there's an aspect of this that's personal due to their previous interactions in NY. Maybe Bloomberg wants to crush Trump more than he wants to be president, and if so, good for him. Anyhow, stay tuned. I think more black swans might be preparing for takeoff.

Bloomberg is committed to help make sure there is no second term for the orange headed buffoon. These ads have a dual purpose of softening up and attacking Trump which will either firm up the support for whomever the Democrats nominate, or bolster Bloomberg's chances if it turns out he wins the nomination.

Hey, issues are issues and the fact of the matter is that there are a long list of priorities on the Democrat's agenda once the buffoon is gone. If they win, then we get health care reform, immigration that makes sense, foreign policy that works for real peace and a whole lot of other benefits. If the name on the door of the oval office is Biden, Warren, Buttigieg, Klobuchar, Sanders, Bloomberg or Steyer, it won't make that much of a difference, especially if the names McConnell, Graham, McSally, Gardner, Collins, Cornyn and Tillis are not on Senate office building doors.

Amy has passed over 100 bills. Bloomberg has obviously done much.

I can imagine they would really get things done, and as we all know, there is much to be done.

On the other hand, Bernie has developed a big following with promises that will be tougher than going to the moon. Our economy is a capitalist-socialist hybrid. We do indeed need less runaway capitalism. As I like to say, capitalism is based on greed. The Republican/oligarch goal is unregulated capitalism/greed... What could possibly go wrong??

Forget about attacking the fellow Democratic party candidates, and go hard after Trump.

To those who hate Bloomberg, and don't want him as our candidate? Start going after Trump like he is, and less after each other.

We want someone who attacks Trump.. not someone who attacks the other candidates running for our nomination.

Bloomberg is NOT the only one who is running against drumpf:

Warren: https://elizabethwarren.com/plans/after-trump

Biden: https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/13/opinions/trump-iran-strategy-self-defeating-biden/index.html

Pete: https://www.cnn.com/2020/02/02/politics/pete-buttigieg-jury-donald-trump-election-cnntv/index.html

Klobuchar: https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/482139-klobuchar-blasts-trump-for-his-criticism-of-world-leaders

Sanders: https://www.npr.org/2020/01/08/794461272/bernie-sanders-criticizes-trump-over-killing-of-iranian-general

No, they are not running ads 24/7 against drumpf because they do not have the money and because they are trying to differentiate themselves from another (and no, his money does not guarantee he will win the GE - history tells us that but it does seem to make some forget the importance of vetting candidates). Bloomberg, on the other hand, is running ads that appeal to Democrats only and also serve to deflect from his actual record and statements.

And, no, he is not currently attacking fellow Dems (seem to remember 2008 where our candidates attacked each other and that came out ok). All he has done is FUND REPUBLICAN opponents of Democrats to the tune of millions of dollars. Part of the reason we have a repub senate is because of his money. I'll take a Democratic senate any day over the supposedly ruinous sight of Dems criticizing each other.

41. I have a couple of concerns about Mike.
Sun Feb 16, 2020, 01:14 PM
Feb 2020

I've read his positions on the issues and find most of them quite acceptable, but (so far) I have concerns about three:
- He has supported fracking as a transition from oil and has invested in fossil fuels. He recently said that natural gas isn't as clean as thought and has become a problem, and he's unveiled his plan to phase out fracking and use of natural gas as quickly as possible. How specific is his timetable for this transition and will he also divest from all fossil fuels?
- He opposes legalizing cannabis. Would he review more recent scientific and medical literature to update his views? Would he promise to not interfere with states that have already legalized cannabis?
- He supports "cutting entitlements." This needs defining and much more specificity. What would be cut, for whom, and by how much? For Social Security, why not just raise the cap?

I appreciate the same things about Mike that others here appreciate, namely his relentless and pointed attacks on Trump, as well as his promise to support the Democratic nominee, whoever that turns out to be. He has been putting his money where his mouth is for decades and his political spending has been just a small part of his overall philanthropic spending.

Unlike Trump, Mike is truly a self-made man. There's also the historical and current reality that his financial data and news business, which made his fortune, deals in real facts without "alternatives" by its very nature. I believe he can be trusted to say what he means and do what he says -- but I still want answers to my concerns.

Mike is definitely the most strategic and aggressive in going after the squatter in the White House, there's no doubt about that. My concerns are minor in comparison to the existential need to win, but I'd still like answers because they're relevant questions.

I'm watching the polls carefully and will also be watching the debates, and I will be throwing my support to whoever is most certain to destroy Trump. It may very well be Mike, but I'm not quite ready to commit yet.

Indeed, DESTRUCTION is paramount: shred him with ridicule and insult and leave his bloated orange carcass flailing and flopping and foaming idiocy and nonsense to his core base of hunyocks.

So far, I'm impressed. He's not without faults, but compared to what we face, he's a saint! And aside from self-made wealth, intelligence, and success that makes orange julius look like a pauper by comparison, he is the only person in the mix who has actually held direct power and authority OVER him.

He is laser focused and he is fearless. Trump has met his match--and then some.

I go by actions, not words on a website. Bloomberg spent 3 million dollars promoting Michigan's republican governor Rick Snyder. Snyder was the governor in charge when the good people of Flint were poisoned. He was the one responsible for putting communities under emergency managers, the people in these communities had no voice in running their city. These communities were inhabited primarily by POC, of course that had nothing to do with his decisions.
He has promoted republican candidates including G.W.Bush. He has something like 64 complaints regarding sexual discrimination against him.
That's a little research you seem to have missed.

If we were to go by website posts, we would be akin to those who go by trump's tweets.
He has buckets of money no need for donations from us "common folk".

And your comments w/ regards to the crowded primary race, you've hit the nail on the head too. Especially about generating bad feelings about our candidates in general. While I haven't had negative feelings being generated towards a specific candidate yet (they are all good people), some of their very ardent followers have come awful close to invoking some pretty strong negative feelings on my part against them. Like it or not, Bloomberg is carpet bombing America with anti-trump ads while our candidates are playing small ball - precinct by precinct, state by state. By the time Mike shows up on a primary ballot his name recognition will be about 100%. This is very expensive, but also very smart.

Meanwhile, he’s setting up offices in all 50 states. Case in point - I live in ultra-conservative Idaho. Bloomberg already has an office in my home town. Want to guess how many other democratic candidates have offices here? None.

Nobody is perfect, and even though Bloomberg has some baggage it is nothing compared to Trump. I don't see how anybody can attack Bloomberg for comments he made about women or stop and frisk. absolutely getting Trump out of office, I have to admit to some very mixed feelings about Bloomberg.

Specifically, I'm uncomfortable with the idea that we need a Democratic billionaire to save us from a Republican billionaire. Seems to me both are billionaires and have far more in common with other billionaires than they do with us little people. Now, don't get me wrong - I'm NOT saying Bloomberg has anything in common with Trump at all beyond money. I'm speaking about billionaires in general.

And, though I clearly see the necessity of a well-funded campaign that can do 'wall to wall' ads in this post-Citizens-United capitalist utopia we're all living in, that very necessity rubs me the wrong way. In idealistic-unicorn-speak we might say it irritates my horn.

Thus, I can appreciate Bloomberg's positions, and his plans are sketchy enough not to trap him in media 'gotcha' bullshit. So, we're good there, because Congress will have to agree with Bloomberg on any reform he puts forward anyway, before it can become law.

And I freely admit he'd be loads better than Trump.
