Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumI question whether Bernie can beat Trump
More and more, I question whether Bernie can beat Trump even though I will vote for him if he is our nominee. I see the GOP tarring and feathering Bernie as a radical socialist and will likely get traction with both republicans and independents. In my opinion, some of his promises will be impossible to deliver. Republicans are eager for Sanders to be the nominee and are already attacking down ballot democrats as "Bernie socialists." Should Trump win, regardless of our nominee, we must ALL have voted to fill the House and Senate with democrats so Trump can be impeached again and removed from office as soon as possible.

(215 posts)Trump has weaponized the DOJ and planning to run on lock up Hunter. His goons already have Hunter bumper stickers on their trucks next to their Hillary 4 Prison stickers. The media will cover the non-story because trump will bring it up 20 times a day.
The only way he can win is bringing the favorables of our nominee down to his levels. He is going to do that to whoever it is.

I don't question it at all. If Sanders is the nominee we will lose. "Socialist" is the nicest term The Impeached Occupant will use. Try communist. And don't count on the youth vote. The
"youth" don;'t have a good record on voting. Mid terms, term papers, classes...and that's just the ones in college. Us old fatrs (68) are the ones who vote. I want Biden, hell, even Warren.I will vote for Bernie if he gets the nomination but he won't win. I'd bet a Social Security check on it.

(14,565 posts)We were fed the same nonsense here in Florida, that enthusiasm and turnout were the key, that Gillum would inspire massive game changing turnout and we should all be thrilled that Florida primary voters had finally got rid of the tepid approach of nominating centrists like Alex Sink and Charlie Crist.
The Bernie Sanders crowd backed Gillum and were solely responsible for that primary upset over Gwen Graham.
It equated to throwing away a race that should not have been losable, given the national slant of 2018. Ron DeSantis was a slug. The socialism attacks on Gillum were so successful that 46% of Floridians in the exit poll said he was too liberal for the state. I posted a related thread immediately that night and warned that their are always tip offs in the midterm.
We are ignoring the tip offs.
Enthusiasm and youth vote would be wonderful if Trump were still at 37% approval, like late 2017. It would be like 2008 all over again...any Democrat with huge edge. Somehow we are content to ignore how much the landscape has shifted. If has shifted in favor of the incumbent. Nothing shifts in favor of a socialist in key swing states with considerably more self-identified conservatives than liberals.
