NRA recently put out an ad attacking Bloomberg. You can find it on YouTube.

Do you agree or disagree with the below?

Postions Bloomberg holds on guns and gun safety:

"Ban assault weapons, protect kids, and protect schools
Mike will reinstate the federal ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines; current assault weapons owners will be allowed to keep their guns, but will have to report them to federal officials. He will require secure storage of firearms when they are not in use, which has been shown to reduce the risk of child gun injuries by up to 85 percent. He will also ban all guns in K-12 schools, colleges, and universities – except for law enforcement."

"Require secure storage of firearms.
● Secure firearm storage practices have been shown to reduce the risk of unintentional child gun injuries by
up to 85 percent14 —and yet an estimated 4.6 million American children15 live in houses with a loaded,
unlocked gun.
● Mike would propose a federal law requiring firearms be stored securely when not in use. Criminal
penalties would attach only if children or prohibited people gain access, though gun owners could face a
civil fine—like a parking ticket—for any case where they leave a gun vulnerable to theft or accessible to a
child.
● Twenty states and DC have some form of secure storage law: CA, CT, DE, DC, FL, HI, IA, IL, MD, MA,
MN, NV, NY, NC, NH, NJ, RI, TX, VA, WA, WI."

And magazines that have a capacity of more than 20 rounds (if a person can't neutralize a threat with 20 rounds or less, they shouldn't have a fucking gun at all).

I have a 6 shot revolver, which I keep in a locked gun safe when I don't have it on my person, for home defense and that's about all the firepower I need. if i needed a gun that could take magazines that held 20 to 30 rounds or even more, I'd seriously think about moving.

should be all you need to drop two assailants in a contested shootout (if you live in a place where you expect a contested shootout, moving would be a good idea). Mostly you need the gun to turn back a burgular who broke in with you at home, or to stop a psycho like the guy in Wisconsin last year who blasted his way into a home with a shotgun, killed the two parents and kidnapped their daughter (a gun in such a situation is real handy, but even a big sharp kitchen knife, courage and smarts could be enough).

Not taking precautions that they kids can't get unsupervised access to the gun(s) is bad. Homeowners are well advised to take a loaded gun out at night, if they live in a thinly policed area, even wear the gun around home during the day in such areas if there is a potential threat from wild animals or dangerous people, any other time, the guns should be locked away in a secure gun cabinet that ONLY the parents know the combination to - that situation should remain in place until the kids are older and may be home alone, and are unlikely to suicide themselves.

Whether to have a gun in the home is a risk/reward assessment that each adult in the household has to make. Someone pointed out here on DU that almost half the gun deaths for the last five years were suicides, so having a gun in those cases led to tragedy. But if a family lives in a rural or thinly policed area and someone is breaking into their home, not having a gun could lead to a lot of bad outcomes. Like I said, it boils down to risk versus reward.

I have to admit that if I were married and had kids, I would most likely own a gun unless my wife was dead set against that. But I would also take gun safety training and frequent target practice from a person that is not an NRA adherent, it would be ok if the person disagreed with me on the NRA, as long as he or she respect my right to disagree.
