"Bye Honey" Bernie supporters celebrating Pete's withdrawl...

Last edited Mon Mar 2, 2020, 03:37 PM - Edit history (4)

East Bay DSA. They've got the rat emoji and everything.

I laugh at the delusion that Pete's supporters will flock to Bernie.

Sid

ETA: they've deleted the tweet. Screenshot added.

Note the emojis used in the tweet.
The nail polish emoji directed at a gay candidate.

I'm still undecided, with my top two choices being Sanders and Warren. In a world of internet FUD I wonder who these supposed Bernie Bros really are. It's true I'm an old fart but my adult children are supporters of similar policies. They wont refuse to vote for whoever the Democratic candidate eventually is if it isn't Bernie. Are we sure that these online disruptive voices aren't from a Russian bot farm?

one more case of trying to save the world w bernie's baggage tied around your ankles.

so many of the people i know who are berners are also old campaign hands. i keep asking them why they want to send me to war w all that baggage when all liz warren has is this nice little handbag. always crickets. always.

and ya know, that was actually the reason i didnt want hillary to be the nominee. desperately wanted her to be the nom, but did not want to be her face at the doors.

Sanders has a good PR department, I will give him that. He's managed to convince people that alienating basically everyone at one point or another means that he's the best candidate to unify the party. It helps to have legions of followers who repeat the talking points non-stop.

and that anyone who disagreed with them was corrupt, stupid, and/or a corporatist tool of the oligarchy, maybe they'd feel more wanted. Like it or not, the Democratic Party has always been a big, diverse tent that welcomes a wide range of ideas. If Bernie and his spokespeople and supporters would STFU about purging from the party (of which Bernie is usually not even a member) all so-called "moderates" - whose votes, by the way, will be needed as much as anyone else's - they'd find more friends here. It's their rigid ideology that's turning people off.

Bernie’s supporters aren’t Bernie. Bernie has never invited or supported that behavior. Bernie has asked his supporters - a very small subset of his supporters - not to be asshats to other candidates’ supporters.

While I think Bernie needs a lot of improvement in some areas, should Warren drop I will strongly support him. Attacking him because some supporters are jerks is the last refuge of people who can’t convince others that their candidate is better for substantive reasons.

Pointing out abhorrent behavior in his supporters isn't an attack. It's the latest data point in a clear pattern of behavior that we've now seen for five years in a subset of his supporters. This isn't an isolated incident. It happens all the time.

At some point, we should probably stop waiving it off and making excuses for it.

Military service

In 2014, Buttigieg began his deployment at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan.
Buttigieg joined the U.S. Navy Reserve through the direct commission officer (DCO) program and was sworn in as an ensign in naval intelligence in September 2009.[59] In 2014, he took a seven-month leave during his mayoral term to deploy to Afghanistan.[60][61][62] While there, Buttigieg was part of a unit assigned to identify and disrupt terrorist finance networks. Part of this was done at Bagram Air Base, but he was also an armed driver for his commander on more than 100 trips into Kabul. Buttigieg has jokingly referred to this role as "military Uber", because he had to watch out for ambushes and explosive devices along the roads and ensure that the vehicle was guarded.[63] In order to better communicate with the local Afghans, he learned some Dari (a dialect of the Persian language). Buttigieg was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal[5] and resigned his commission from the U.S. Navy Reserve in 2017

There are some really lovely Bernie supporters here and in the real world. (And there are others I have blocked here because they are tiresome and repetitive.)

I don't doubt that some of Bernie's supporters are like this. And some (not all!) of his spokespeople and staff are undeniably gross, which doesn't give me a lot of confidence in his ability to choose good people to be around him as president. His message resonated with me in 2016 and still does, but I'm so turned off by so many of the people around him. I don't understand why he doesn't even try to stop this kind of behavior; that's a failure on his part, and it's definitely making him an unattractive candidate this time around, but it's not a flaw in his message.

I hope Russia's attempts to split the Democratic party are called out in time for us to unify again, no matter who the candidate is.

It raises my blood pressure too much to read too many of their comments and tweets. At a time when we desperately need unity or we lose our country, it's beyond frustrating to watch this truly ugly infighting happening.

It's as if some (not all) of them would rather let the world burn (literally--what do they think four more years of Trump would do to the climate) than compromise and even grudgingly accept another Democratic candidate.

I am NOT saying that all of Bernie's supporters are like this--in fact, the vast majority aren't--but some of them kind of remind me of Trump's.

That's why I did support Biden, because Trump attacked him so much.

But this new wave of Bernie hate just makes me want to vote for Bernie even more. I think I will go out, call people to vote Bernie and take people to the polls now too.

Not only did they use the veiled homophobic "honey", they used a "nailpolish" emoji as well as a rat.

Anyway... I think Pete's votes will mostly go to Biden.

Since Sen. Warren shows no sign of dropping out today, I think Biden will get a big lead tomorrow. Then it'll be a matter of time before Sen Warren drops out. She might stay in all the way to the end.. if the DNC is putting their foot on the scales, they just need to keep Warren in until the convention to sap away Sander's progressive voters.

Once that's done, congratulations we end up with a guy who wants to go back to the old days where we give republicans everything they want PLUS some extra just so they don't hurt us. Wet noodle politics.

But at least he won't deliberately continue the destruction of our constitution... maybe.
