Do endorsements make a difference to voters?

The only time I am influenced by an endorsement is when I don't know enough about the candidates or the race to make the choice myself. Usually that's for school board or judges. Then I follow the endorsement of someone I trust. Otherwise its interesting but does not influence me at all.

primary today, I would vote for:

they have been able to question the candidates...and their staffs are more educated and astute than other endorsements.

after I read them, I go look for additional support for their conclusions and criticisms.

As I recall only one or two papers larger than a weekly "throwaway" endorsed him. All the majors (and there were a lot of them) went for Clinton.

But, clearly, Clyburn's endorsement had an enormous impact in SC. I think Beto's in Texas may too.

I think many of them are useful for publicity purposes, or to lend symbolic support. I think the endorsements of Biden by Buttigieg, Klobuchar and O'Rourke might have some effect because they at least encourage the supporters of those (former) candidates to throw their support to him, and some percentage are likely to do that. Celebrity endorsements, however, might not be very useful except to the pitifully uninformed. The endorsement of some movie star is about as important to most people as the endorsement of some nutter waving a sign on a freeway overpass.
