He can officially JOIN THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY while endorsing Biden. Why? Because if Bernie doesn't get the nomination, this campaign season will be his last hurrah. He's, what, 78? There are few other options to complete his legacy. IMO, he may WANT to reconcile his positions with the Democratic Party before he retires.

But.. we're a long way from any scenario in which this is politically possible and even desirable for all factions. There are a lot of primaries on the calendar.

The train will leave the station without them. The sooner they accept the inevitable, the better it will be for everyone. Trump is a national emergency. There's no time to grieve for a failed campaign that didn't get the nomination.

It's time to RALLY AROUND Joe Biden. Bernie and his supporters will get on-board, I'm sure of it. I know that we can COUNT ON BERNIE for his enthusiastic support. I know that he'll work tirelessly and campaign every day for Joe... just as if he were campaigning for himself. Bernie will be selfless and will give his all to Joe Biden.

I know this, because that's the kind of honest and honorable man that Bernie Sanders is. He's not the kind of man who will put personal feelings ahead of the national interests. He's going to go ALL IN FOR JOE (and so will his supporters).

Tue Mar 3, 2020, 11:40 AM
Mar 2020

is that his animosity toward Trump is clearly VISCERAL. IMO, his rage at Trump is partly fueled by the way that Trump treated, and still treats, Obama.

If Biden gets the nomination, Trump will refuse to debate him during the general election campaign. If Trump agrees to debate, Biden will eat his brains-- only because Biden feels that it's his right to reclaim the superior position vacated by BHO, and because Trump needs to be put in his place.

... but it's a long way to the nomination.

Tue Mar 3, 2020, 09:22 AM
Mar 2020

There is a lower age limit, I'm guessing for supposed inexperience, but there is an inexperience that comes with old age too.
Fading of memory and judgement, physical frailty, senile dementia, Alzheimer's, it's a long list.

Let's set it at 62, so that whoever wins and gets a double term, will be 70 by the end of the 8 years.

This idea might not go down well right now, but then again it would have made Trump ineligible and a non starter in 2016. So there is that.

new studies show that in the absence of cognitive disorders older folks, though they process a bit more slowly, scan problems better, being more able to pick out the salient features immediately from the trees n the way of the forest.

They operate out of a reservoir of knowledge and experience that can afford them more sound decision making. This deeper resource is not available to much younger counterparts.

And yes. Older brains can learn new things.

And no. The majority of the elderly do not go on to dementia or Alzheimer’s, which can also have an early onset.

A VP tested in leadership abilities, hopefully with political savvy and a knowledge of world affairs,
so important in these perilous times, considerably younger, should be chosen.

If Biden is the candidate he will bring the best people on board. And he will listen to experts.

I don't believe there is any way Biden can beat Trump. This, it seems to me, is exactly what the Russians and Trump want. I like Joe Biden but I fear he will be destroyed in the run-up to the election. Elizabeth Warren seems to me to be the only person capable of beating Trump but I think the social media blitz and misinformation being propagated may be too much to help any of those left in the field. I fear the worst.

been the most perfect antitheses of trump. And a perfectly experienced pick to remediate what trump broke. But an important factor is for him to pick a young energetic progressive as VP to complete the package. Age and wisdom to fix, with youth and optimism to forge the future.

This is an unusual time to say the least. In a stable environment Warren may have been the pick. Timing just not right. If she runs in 2024, hope she looks too at a way to present her ideas in a way that doesn't alienate the middle so much. Fellow Dems,

Let's all actually show up this November. I was really into Bernie last time when we only had three candidates, but did the right thing and chose Hillary (with the majority) when it was supposed to matter.

Biden should unite the party, not for Joe's sake, but because his presence will remind us of better times with President Obama. I'm sure his Cabinet and WH staff will have a lot of familiar names and faces to help him right the wrong that Trump inflicted upon America and the world.

I'm leaving Senator Warren's image here, but if Rocky the Flying Squirrel is the Democratic nominee, that's who I'm voting for.

Hell, John Kerry was an actual vet who served, with honors and was injured during battle and they spun him into being weak while promoting a simple minded son of privilege who avoided combat by a politically manuvered air national guard assignment.

They spun a highly competent, decent and honorable public servants (Hillary) into the female embodiement of satan.

We spent nearly two fucking months with them driving the narrative during the 2008 election over a flipping flag pin.

Yes, they have already started on Biden because he is the one they fear the most. They have already softened the ground with EW, and if she were to rise to be a real threat for the nomination she would be the full on target and it would get just as ugly as it will about all the Urkrain bullshit with Biden.

And, there is little doubt that they candidate they most want, by far is Bernie. THAT would be the so fornicated nomination.

It is going to be ugly with whoever (againt the worst being Bernie).

Obama never said 'I'm a Socialist". It's kinda hard for someone to "deny being a socialist" and accuse the GOP of exaggerating. When someone has admitted and BRAGGED about being a Socialist many many (many many) times, it's difficult to ridicule GOP hyperbole if it's not exactly hyperbole. So, there's that... and the essays, and the toddler comments... ugh... and the open hostility for the Democratic party and contempt for Obama... double-ugh.

Y'all just need to get on the Joe Biden bandwagon. Come back into the tent and get with the program. Joe is going to be our party's nominee, and we're all very much looking forwarding to you working to help him to defeat Trump.

Reading this forum you will not find many who agree, not sure if its their hope for a "Democrat" nominee like Biden, or fear that Sanders is too progressive or his supporters too extreme/vocal.

Personally I don't see Biden as a great campaigner, and does not come across strong on the debate stage, going by his past presidential campaigns.

Go online to larger forums and you get the clear impression that Trump has been hoping and preparing for Biden, he is already tweeting videos of all the "sleepy Joe gaffes" and his online meme brigade is going to run away with it on Facebook and social media.

But this is expected for any of the candidates, just Joe gaffes a lot.

121. If a politician is unwilling to compromise and find common ground and mutual interests, then...
Tue Mar 3, 2020, 06:33 PM
Mar 2020

If a politician is unwilling to compromise and find common ground and mutual interests, then that politician will fail and walk away with NOTHING. (And then, get this, that politician will BOAST AND BRAG about getting ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!)

Meanwhile, the most vulnerable among us continue to suffer because some politicians want to boast and brag about "holding firm" and "never compromising" their principles.

Fact of the matter is this (and something that the most egotistical politicians fail to understand... no matter who he or she may be) is that incremental progress IS STILL FUCKING PROGRESS!!! It's NOT standing still... it's better than we were before even if it's not the whole thing, a half a loaf is better than nothing at all. A single piece of pie is better than nothing at all.

So, the politician/s who claim/s that he (or she, whatever) will never negotiate and never "bargain with the enemy" is a fool! That type of egotistical and obstinate attitude ultimately means that they are (either willingly or unwillingly) maintaining the status quo. When nothing changes, what we have is the status quo. If a politician is unwilling to accept incremental change and is unwilling to compromise, then the "status quo" wins again.

That's not what I'd call being "progressive".

How will Bernie get 60 votes in the senate to pass anything?

The reality is he won't get his bills through even a Democrat-held committee.

He will have to compromise and come up with watered down versions that will be worse than what Biden will be able to pass because Biden has the respect of the senators.

by the way, if Bernie has some secret formula to get bills passed, how come he has not used it for 30+ years? His salient legislative "accomplishment" is naming two post offices.

I remember another candidate using it before.

I was hoping for a bird to land on Joe's podium last night too but alas - didn't happen.
