Why are people still voting for those who dropped out?

I could not help but notice that the results from the NC presidential primary had lots of votes for candidates who have dropped out. Why are people still voting for those who have quit? I have always wondered about that. I can see some being stubborn and doing a Write-In, because some people will just do that, if they feel strongly enough about a candidate, but voting for someone who has dropped out seems kind of pointless.

Have any of you ever voted for someone who has already dropped out? Do you mind sharing why? I'm curious about that.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Also some folks just don’t pay attention to things the way we do. We live for this shit, but some people are barely aware it’s going on.

I know people who mailed in their votes for Pete Buttigieg just hours before he dropped out. If they waited to vote today they would have voted for Joe Biden.

In '04, I voted for Dean in VA. We were pretty late in the primary season. I told myself if I at least got to voted for someone who I loved. I could fall in line and vote for Kerry, who I didn't support because of the Iraq war vote.

it might be to make a statement. I would imagine that Pete Buttigieg is getting votes from people who want to be a bit of the history of his campaign. I know that I was proud to give him my vote in our primary.
