The new smear from the right is that Biden is senile.

I am hearing the Fox News guys and the CEC pushing it hard. We need to be ready for this- it is the only thing they have and they are goin to run with it.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

While he may not be senile, his mental acuity is very lacking. He's a terrible debater in the traditional sense. If I was going to advise Biden (and of course I'm not), I'd tell him to not even debate trump while on stage, just make your points and get out, because trump's just going to turn it into a shit-flinging contest, and if you partake in that contest you can't beat the ace shit-flinger.

That's why i think Joe would want to ignore him as much as possible and just make his case. I do share a bit of your concern, but I also saw what happened in our democratic electorate last night. Folks who know Biden, warts and all, basically decided on their own that he's the one they want against trump. That carries weight for me. He was never my first choice (Harris, then Warren, a dash of Klobuchar), but he's the viable choice left standing IMO, and a man of good faith and integrity. I'm proud to support and donate to him.

He ought to be, anyway. Although I know (like Bernie) he's shown a bit of temper a few times in public, and it's not super cute, however merited.

But that's not who he actually is, which makes him a great contrast to Trump. So I agree with your advice to smile more (again, great contrast to Trump) and to do all those other things, too. The country wants a calm and reassuring and empathetic president after the nonstop rollercoaster of emotions of the past three and a half years. We're exhausted.

Short simple sentences with one thought. He gets stuck and comes across as old and forgetful when he attempts the complex response. Biden was capable of that in 2008 and 2012 but not today.

Gore lost because of the sighing in debate one. Don't let anyone pretend otherwise. I knew darn well the polling would shift dramatically I saw it in my living room while hosting a debate watching party. I had young women literally grabbing their flip phones and calling their mothers in horrors that they had actually intended to vote for Al Gore.

Obviously Gore would have won anyway minus those ballot designs. But debate one caused the race to be closer than it should have been.

Now anyone who doesn't understand Biden's vulnerability in the debates is indeed kidding themselves. For one thing, he's going to need to talk much more when it's one-on-one and not one among seven.

It's so maddening. I remember that debate. A FEW SIGHS and everybody lost their minds. You'd have thought he'd grabbed W by the short and curlies live on stage. Of course, if he actually had grabbed somebody there and bragged about it, that would have been a real campaign-ender, right...?

I maxed out for primaries back in October. I have met and got hugged by Joe at two fundraisers. Joe is sharp and has not lost a step.

At the first fundraiser, Joe did the selfie shot himself (he took my iPhone from me) and did a great job.

At the second fundraiser, we talked about stuttering. I was a stutterer until 4th grade. We were told that my son was "developmentally delayed" by the head of Jewish education in Harris County who was on the board of my Temple with me. It turned out that my son and I each had a language processing issue that manifested itself in different ways. I stuttered until 4th grade and then grew out of it. My son was tested and had some therapy and is now a partner a major law firm (he graduate Phi Beta Kappa and was an editor on a law journal).

Joe hugged me and we discussed stuttering. I was amazed at the compassion and humanity of this man

Joe has not lost a step and is an amazing person. I have seen him up close

I’ll say at the offset that I like Joe and Joe has gotten older, as have we all. Is he at peak? Define it. Is he declining? Define it.

Does anyone have the vaguest idea how you’d come off in front of a camera hours per day, your every twitch scrutinized and used to shore up whatever pet theory each person wants to push? If you’re a hugger now you’re a creep, no matter what’s your intent. If you misspeak you’re gaffe prone, no matter you’ve been talking nonstop for days and have had people firing talking points and questions at you without ceasing. If you wax nostalgic you’re out of touch. If you use modern vernacular you’re an embarrassing boomer. If you stumble over words you’re feeble.

Being older does slow some things down and cause some things like anomia, temporary forgetting of words and names. It’s not dementia and it’s not a sign of failing cognition. It’s literally specific neural pathways not connecting as quickly. It happens to damn near all of us if we live long enough.

I’m sure campaigning is a beast on older people, but I’d put some elders far ahead of youngers in handling it. Governing takes wisdom and intelligence and the will to place people around you who will carry out a cohesive, purpose driven plan that reflects the wants and needs of a nation.

Joe is fine. If Joe IS slowing he’s fine. He’s not developing a different personality or forgetting what he’s there for. Don’t give the right, whose boy is genuinely personality disordered and is trying to be a dictator, fuel against a decent, smart man who yes, is in his seventies. And can get us out of this.

You know how Joe used to challenge people to a push up contest to show how robust he is for his age? What will put this hit meme to rest for the overwhelming majority of the sane American public is the upcoming one on one 90 minute plus debate Joe Biden will have with Bernie Sanders in less than two weeks. That is a much more demanding format than a six person debate where one gets time to gather one's thoughts. Biden doesn't have to "win" that debate to demolish that smear, he just has to hold his own and I'm pretty darn sure he will.

I hate smears of any kind. Let politics be dominated by the issues embraced by, and the integrity of, our candidates.

Funny, I remember this going around on Twitter when Biden was leading in the polls, and then it mysteriously went away for a while when he was down...and now it's magically back. I find it personally offensive because I have had family members who had diagnosed Dementia...eff these transparent armchair doctors, because they seem to have no idea what it actually looks like. Also, screw Hillary's email story, the press never did an accounting for the online smears that persisted for months/were assisted for months for many mainstream media folks that Hillary was secretly dying, or had Parkinson's or something. I fully expect it to continue through election day aided by right, the feral left, and Russian trolls. Also bold because they are doing this to prop up a candidate who had a heart attack just a few months ago.

Fri Mar 6, 2020, 10:36 AM
Mar 2020

I suspect that Biden wasn't so sure of his candidacy before then. He seemed both hesitant and distracted. It APPEARED that he was losing capacity. Since SC, Biden has been upbeat and focused. Go figure.

He may, at 77, still be in a decline cognitive state, which would be natural for a man his age. But he may have enough drive and activation to nonetheless move forward and draw more people into his camp. Bernie is about the same age and would naturally encounter the same limitations based on his age. The VP nomination is vitally important for both candidates. Warren or Harris would be ideal, but not so if Sanders gets the nomination because picking either, for him, would vacate TWO Senate seats.
