Many young voters sat out Super Tuesday, contributing to Bernie Sanders' losses

Exactly, they love a night out at the rallies, it's like going to a concert except it's free. But when it comes to the hard work, (registering and standing in line to vote), it just doesn't happen. Not all of them, but enough so that their votes cannot be counted on. Bernie's not the only one this has happened to. Don't know why all the "analysts" get so excited about the young vote. It rarely materializes and any politician that depends on it, ends up being disappointed.

Many young voters sat out Super Tuesday, contributing to Bernie Sanders' losses
Ledyard King, USA TODAY 5 hrs ago

WASHINGTON – Young voters cheer Bernie Sanders' anti-establishment message. They turn out in throngs at his rallies. And they form the core of his grassroots efforts to win the Democratic presidential nomination.

But their fiery passion did not translate into the robust turnout he needed on Super Tuesday to win a number of key states, notably in the South where a strong showing by former vice president Joe Biden has made the nomination contest a two-man race.

Exit polls for five southern states that Biden won – Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia – found that young voters did not show up at the polls in the numbers they did in 2016.

Long lines of students waiting to vote, when they asked them how long they had been waiting they said 2 hours plus. Asked how long they would wait, until we can vote they said.

Not all young people are Bernie supporters. Some are less emotional and more pragmatic.

2 voted absentee from their campuses weeks ago (Sanders and Warren) and 1 voted in person yesterday (Sanders)

All 3 of them are very informed, the in person voter attended a Sanders rally this week and was very inspired, none of them are super active as far as working phone banks or that kind of thing (in contrast to their loud mother )

I’m very proud of each of them for researching and then actually making their informed votes. Even if it wasn’t for my candidate.

As a Biden supporter I’m of course glad Sanders bank of young voters didn’t all show up but as a democrat I’m slightly concerned about this. We need to make sure these kids show up in November when it REALLY counts.

close the doors to them, make changes in the tax system to make it more equitable and to have more money for social services, free education, Medicare For All, create jobs, etc.

Why does this defeating attitude exist when other countries have done it? Is it because people do not believe their elected officials will have the guts to do it? If that is so, why are people voting for "leaders" they don't have full confidence they can do it?

I don't get it, we should all be fighting for getting rid of "Shark student loan" companies, and they are all sharks, corrupted, allowed to do what they do because of the money they have paid politicians, we should be fighting for Medicare for All, for Free Education, a society that enjoys knowledge would never vote for a trump, would never allow the rhetoric of dictators and populism attract them. Why is it that we go into an election thinking that we cannot have this or that? What is wrong with us? Politicians DO NOT know better than we do, we need to eliminate from our society the culture of celebrity we hold on politicians, they are people, some are good and most of them are there for personal agendas, and many of them are plain crooks, what is there to celebrate?

Student loans are just a big money spigot that feeds the beast. Efficiency matters in all things in life. Nothing is free, someone pays, even if its going to the store for potato chips. Students are pawns in the charade. No matter the loans, no matter the endowments, the cost of higher education goes way up, and more loans are made and more people sign on, and costs go higher. Are we better off? Education at one time fed innovation and industry. Now education is its own growth industry.

13. Does this include the young voters who have registered "Independent"?
Wed Mar 4, 2020, 10:02 AM
Mar 2020

I know a ton of them who decided to register "Independent", they don't want to belong to any of the two parties, most of them I know will vote Democrat, but that is because of trump, but not because they think Democrats will do anything progressive that will prevent the dire predictions that await them.

The reality is that many young voters went for Sanders because his agenda is geared to change things to prevent the dire predictions that await young people, they were counting on progressive changes, for the country to start moving ahead, but the ones I have talked to see that the status quo will remain although they accept the fact that a lot of the disgraceful action by the trump administration will be corrected, and they seem to despise trump anyway, but it is sad to hear them talk in a sort of deflated way because they feel that more of the same will continue to happen due to the perspective of who will be the nominee. They don't see sound regulations coming to stop the medical, pharma, insurance, oil, and many other industries to stop the slaughter they continue to do to the environment, and to society. We have gone back to corporations monopolizing markets, Amazon eating the mom-and-pop industry, same with the communication industry consolidating into mammoth corporations. We shall see.

That is what they tell me, that is why I am interested to know if that includes those who registered as "Independents".

Because to win he better do something before others do to get their votes. The Nov election I think they will vote if they have a better reason to. Many do like Biden , but do they hate trump enough to get them out to vote? So far, no. That should raise red flags.
