https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-03-04/health-insurer-stocks-advancing-on-biden-campaign-comeback?sref=vuYGislZHealth insurers led U.S. stock market gains Wednesday after Joe Bidens once-faltering Democratic presidential campaign was reanimated on Super Tuesday.
Wall Street looks on a candidacy of the former vice president more favorably than that of Senator Bernie Sanders, who has campaigned on the promise of Medicare-for-all, which poses the greatest threat to private insurers.
Biden favors building upon Obamas Affordable Care Act, which could prove a boon to those with ties to government health-care programs. Insurers Anthem Inc. and UnitedHealth Group Inc. both had the biggest gain since Oct. 2008, climbing as much as 16% and 13% respectively.

The WHOLE market is up today, not just the cherry-picked health insurance stocks.
The increase today across the board is attributable to the fact that the Democrats now have a viable candidate to take on trump.

(16,186 posts)allows those of us with "employer-provided" crappy health insurance to take it if we don't like our stupid employer plan. We get 3 options: expensive, REALLY expensive, and HSA with a $7000 deductible but we save $85/mo in premiums!! Whoopee!! All have crummy coverage and reimbursement, leaving the employee on the hook for a huge part of the costs.
It sucks. I want to buy into Medicare.
