Wed Mar 4, 2020, 01:46 PM

Internalized misogyny is women projecting sexism onto other women or women believing that they are inferior to men. It stems from the ingrained (and usually harmful) beliefs and stereotypes that society already constructed to weaken women.

Reference: www.hercampus.com/school/augustana/what-internalized-misogyny

Women have a long history of not supporting women candidates as much as one would think they should.

American women voted overwhelmingly for Clinton, except the white ones

The world woke up today to the shock news that the Republican candidate beat Hillary Clinton, the first female major-party candidate to run for the US presidency. In claiming this victory, Trump stumped the majority of pollsters and political commentators, who expected women to carry Clinton to the White House.

So, what exactly happened? Women did vote overwhelmingly to elect Clinton, but it was white women who helped hand Trump the presidency, according to Edison national election poll. Overall, 54% of women voted for Clinton, much higher than the 42% of women who voted for Trump. But when the women’s vote is divided by race, it becomes clear that black women actually largely drove the so-called gender gap against Trump.

Why would any woman in their right mind vote for a misogynist like Trump?

But, OK, it seems that White women might be the ones most affected by internalized misogyny.

Absolutely and totally desperate beyond all else... And, unfortunately (wrongly?) they concluded this was not time that a woman like Warren could do so.

Warren is a wonderful candidate. I think she worked harder, was more prepared, and more ready than nearly any other candidate and especially most of her male opponents. Timing is everything though and this is a really shitty time for quite a few of the candidates.

As Bluewater states upstream, internalized misogyny is an issue for some women, but I see it as broader than that.
