(11,265 posts)I prefer they call us all Democrats without all the race labels. They divide us up by race, and republicans by rich, christian, middle class and poor, no race describing republicans ?

(32,974 posts)Sanders campaign going hard at Latino voters is damn smart and is anticipating the future.
When Beto was running for Senator in Texas, the DNC outreach to Latino voters was severely lacking from what I heard & read.
source--https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/598a8x/is-beto-orourke-trying-hard-enough-to-get-the-latino-votes-he-needs
snip--"Latino volunteers recognize that theres tremendous political potential within their own communities. From 2010 to 2017, Texas's Hispanic population increased by nearly 2 million. But data from the Texas secretary of states office shows that while there were 3.5 million registered voters in 2016 with Spanish surnames, only about half voted that election year, and more than a million eligible Latinos were still not registered to vote. (Turnout in midterm elections is generally much lower than in presidential years.)"
snip--..." on-the-ground outreach efforts seem to have been fueled largely by grassroots volunteers who are not affiliated with the campaign.
But an effective campaign cant rely on volunteer operations, Tzintzun said. In a state like Texas you have to spend significant dollars on knocking on voters doors, and you need to hire folks from those communities to do that, she said. A volunteer operation will not give you that because most black and brown folks in the state are working class, and they dont have the time or luxury to do that on a volunteer basis.
snip--"But he lost heavily Hispanic counties along the USMexico border in the Texas Democratic primary, surprising some experts and suggesting to observers like Tzintzun that ORourke didnt do enough Latino outreach early on."

(2,224 posts)were placing a higher importance on black voters than everyone else who will vote blue. My mistake. I just believe that everyone who votes for a Dem candidate is valuable to us.

(146,308 posts)And Bernie missed the commemorative march across the Edmund Pettis Bridge just the other day. I guess he thought nobody would notice, except that all the other candidates were there to support John Lewis and the black community.
Poor Bernie. A day late and a dollar short, once again.
