Related: About this forumNEW POLL: Joe Biden Takes Lead in Washington State, Which Bernie Sanders Won By Landslide in 2016
Barely a week after the entire Democratic primary race was upended by Bidens overwhelming victory in the South Carolina primary, which was closely followed by a string of surprising Super Tuesday victories that have placed the former Veep in the delegate lead, Sanders chances of winning the nomination look bleak.
The week ended with some more bad news for Sanders, as Biden took a slim lead in Washington State, where Sanders won an overwhelming caucus victory in 2016. Biden leads Sanders 36 percent to 35 percent in the poll, after trailing Sanders by five in the same poll in January.
In 2016, Washington was a caucus state, and Sanders took 74 delegates while former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was only awarded 27. But Clinton defeated Sanders in the then-purely-symbolic primary several months later.

(42,862 posts)That's very good to know. Caucuses allow for undue peer pressure and bullying and intimidation among those who are even ABLE to attend. There's no sanctity of the secret ballot... and so many people who must work, or who are caregivers, or who cannot dedicate so much time at a specific hour, end up being disenfranchised. In the end, it's the "activists" (shall we say) that end up controlling the process, and that's really not fair.

(35,454 posts)I consider caucuses undemocratic and not at all representative. They now are voting by mail.

(18,672 posts)But HRC hands down won by primary ballot, which is the vote that mattered in the end. I was at the caucuses for Bernie, and can say the representation for him there in no way reflected the real world. That was my introduction to the obnoxious Bernie Bro and Ive never forgotten how truly awful they behaved.

(41,960 posts)If us elders hadnt been so responsible and put ourselves in positions of power at the caucus sites themselves the Bros would have made me slap the crap out of some of them.
Im really happy to see Joe in front!

(18,672 posts)Seeing some of my fellow Bernie supporters stand in front of the men and women speaking for Hillary, trying to intimidate them and in particular, try to repeatedly shout one young lady down while she remained calm and continued to succinctly state why Hillary was the best choice really opened my eyes. The Bernie bro mentality disgusts me, especially after watching them do at the Democratic Convention what they did in my local caucus. It was ugly, and I hope the DNC will not tolerate that kind of shit storm again this year. I realized Bernie could have nipped that behavior in the bud if he so chose. The same part of me that has come to believe he might be a narcissist believes he gets off on it. I can't respect that, or anyone who is willing to throw bill after bill (or Democracy) under the bus, or worse, encourage the opposite because they can't have it their way. I've said I will vote for Bernie if he gets the nomination, but after Joe Biden won most states, I see he is continuing to denigrate my party and I don't appreciate that he's willing to let his ego throw everything to Trump.
Warren was my first choice, but I'm proud to get behind and cast my vote for Joe Biden. I am so, so ready for a woman President, but was oddly happy when he made a comeback last Tuesday. It gives me hope that the Democrats can come together under a common cause - to oust Trump.
