Bernie Voted Against Disastrous Trade Deals.

Mar 10, 2020

I voted against disastrous trade deals like NAFTA and PNTR that cost millions of jobs. Joe Biden voted for them. Ours is the campaign that is strongest to defeat Trump.

with enforceable protections for labor rights, regulatory standards and the environment. Those standards are why UK conservatives wanted out of the EU and got their wish through the efforts of Trump's buddy, Boris Johnson.

Wanting the kinds of safety net, trade agreements and income equality that Europe has is not asking for too much.

I know his website now has more Democratic immigration views, but Bernie has long used RW talking points in attacking immigration. For example, open borders. No one is advocating open borders. Yet, like Trump, Bernie likes to beat up on this racist strawman.

position. He favors increased legal immigration - unlike Trump. Supports DACA - unlike Trump.

Several Democratic candidates support the elimination of criminal penalties for entering the country illegally. The Trump administration used the statute to justify separating families under its zero-tolerance border strategy, which split apart thousands of families in the spring of 2018.

Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Sen. Kamala Harris, Sen. Bernie Sanders, author Marianne Williamson and entrepreneur Andrew Yang raised their hands when asked at the first Democratic debate whether they believe crossing the border illegally should be a civil offense rather than a crime.

(The site included Biden among those supporting retaining the law but did not offer a quote from him.)

Bernie is shown as opposed to any additional funding for The Wall. Biden as shown as "still deciding".

A number of candidates, including former Vice President Joe Biden, have offered support for the revised deal, which both chambers of Congress passed with overwhelming bipartisan support.

Sen. Bernie Sanders has been perhaps the most outspoken about his opposition, arguing at the January debate that "we could do much better." He listed environmental provisions as the chief reason for his opposition, though he has also said he feels the pact will not stop outsourcing or help workers.

workers -- including those just on the other side of our southern the border -- as scabs.

Further, Sanders does not seem to recognize the thousands of Americans employed by foreign companies like Siemens, Toyota, Honda, BMW, Sony, etc.

40 years in Congress and really very little to show for his time. I consider Sanders to be similar to Marco Rubio, a career politician that has done nothing in their time in Congress. I have been undecided about my vote since Harris dropped out, still feel she was the best candidate, so Im backing Joe now, he is the best option to defeat Trump.

But clearly there are conflicting demands from so many sides that often its necessary to compromise to get any kind of deal in place. And without a trade deal at all, issues regarding labor and environment could actually get worse. I dont like it but until we find a better solution sometimes its necessary to compromise. Bernie approach is, if its not perfect, then nothing. That's dangerous and ignorant of reality.
