extreme example, but still an example, and no one's hoping Trump bows out gracefully before he gets humiliated.

Trump can't be humiliated, and everything before and since 2016 suggests neither can Sanders. Or shamed, as we've seen many times. Both believe they're right in everything they do.

That unreasoned and unsupported conviction that "I alone can fix it," those promises that all is possible, even when it isn't, is what some unfortunately find far more desirable than the rational honesty of principled candidates. Charismatic leaders feed that need and don't doubt themselves any more than their believers do.

as running mate, Trump will want to compete by having a woman. Probably would think it counters his bad polling among women. Haley is the only darker skinned woman in politics that R's would tolerate. A bid to win some POC votes.

She would then be in line for president - IF he manages to steal it again.

Mon Mar 16, 2020, 05:20 AM

and not liking it as much as I did at first glance.

Haley is perceived by many Goppers as being some kinda rising superstar in the party. I seriously doubt she would hitch her rising wagon to a sinking ship. The odds of Biden winning are probably better than 50-50 and it has the potential to be a Dem blowout. If she were to be the VP on a losing ticket that would hurt her odds for a bid in 2024.

I'm pretty sure that nobody who was ever a VP candidate on a ticket that has previously lost then went on to win the presidency on their own. Most VPs don't even manage to ascend to the top after the POTUS leaves office...

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2015/10/21/9574065/vice-presidents-president-history

I'm thinking now that if she were asked she would decline. If she thought he had a much better chance she would probably jump at the offer but that ain't the case by a long shot. Not much love lost between her and the Fuhrer anyway...she may be a semi-suckup but she ain't stupid.

Anyway, amigo...I'll bet you a cyberbeer she ain't on the ticket. If you agree don't forget we'll have witnesses!

Astute of you to bring that up...kudos.

In some ways that was a real tough debate for Joe...not because he couldn't blow her away with his knowledge of facts and policy and history and her lack of knowledge about the same...but because he had to walk on eggshells during that debate, her being a "hockey mom" and all. Joe had to put her in her rightful place without looking like he was beating up on a defenseless woman. But he did real good walking that narrow path.

He didn't have such restraints when he faced Paul Ryan...and made him look like a junior high juvenile.

Trump knows less than Palin did, and since he's a man (or so rumor has it) Joe won't have any hands tied behind his back when they go toe-to-toe. Very much looking forward to it.
