Biden has talked with Obama about possible vice presidential pick

Democratic presidential front-runner Joe Biden said Sunday that he has talked with former President Barack Obama about a potential vice presidential pick.

Speaking to over 70 Georgia donors on a fundraising call, Biden said he and Obama recently agreed that his vice presidential nominee must have the political experience to step into his role if something were to make him unable to serve as president.

“The most important thing — and I’ve actually talked to Barack about this — the most important thing is that there has to be someone who, the day after they’re picked, is prepared to be president of the United States of America if something happened,” Biden said.

Without mentioning specific names, Biden told donors he currently has at least seven women his team is considering. The vetting process, which one campaign official described to NBC News as “vigorous,” would begin in a “matter of weeks,” he said.

During a CNN debate with Sen. Bernie Sanders last week, Biden said he planned to select a woman as his vice presidential candidate should be become the Democratic nominee.

“They have to be prepared,” Biden said. “Once I pick someone, God willing if I’m the nominee, that there’s not going to be any snafu.”

Biden has said repeatedly on the campaign trail that he would prefer to pick a woman as his vice president, but he disclosed only recently that he is taking his age into consideration as he makes his choice.

I can imagine they talk more often than we might think. Either way, it shows that Joe is a reasonable guy and knows that one person alone can do this job, it requires advice from others and he is willing to seek it and make use of it in favorable ways.

yes they do appear to have a great relationship, as has been long widely known, but I don't think anything here especially attests to it. I'm quite sure Obama would have been glad to have taken that call from anyone who happened to be the Dem frontrunner at this point, whether it was Joe or anyone else.

Janet Napolitano. Former governor of AZ and head of Homeland Security...played a large role in helping mitigate the H1N1 flu outbreak back in 2009. Longtime advocate for immigration reform and dreamer supporter. Just stepped down as president of Univ of California late last year. Has had a few controversies over the years and some question about her health re breast cancer but she says she has a clean bill at the moment. Early supporter of Obama and worked with both him and Biden during their transition.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janet_Napolitano

In February 2006, Napolitano was named by The White House Project as one of "8 in '08", a group of eight female politicians who were suggested as possible candidates for president in 2008. On January 11, 2008, she endorsed then Illinois Senator Barack Obama as the Democratic nominee for president. On November 5, 2008, she was named to the advisory board of the Obama-Biden Transition Project.

Only 62 which is a spring chicken compared to some of these candidates...LOL. Could help Joe out on some potentially crucial swing states like AZ and FL. If Joe wants executive "experience" she's got it.

Would love to get a peek at that list...I wouldn't bet a fortune on her being the VP pick but I'd wager a few bucks she's on it.

Forbes ranked her as the world's ninth most powerful woman in 2012 and eighth most powerful woman in 2013. In 2008, she was listed by The New York Times as one of the women most likely to become the first female President of the United States. Some political commentators suggested a possible candidacy in the 2016 election.

Might just be more an indication of just how bad other states are compared to Arizona than how great AZ is. What they did to my native PA and elsewhere was a crime against democracy...

Analysis indicates partisan gerrymandering has benefited GOP

I know Obama and others have made this a high priority going forward. Tired of being in a majority run by the minority. But in all fairness the Democrats were getting really bad at this back in the 60s and 70s too after being in power for many decades.
