Kamala Harris: The Truth and Justice Campaign

It’s not going to be hope and change, it’s going to be truth and justice.
https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2019/01/how-kamala-harris-running-against-2020-democrats/580921/

Here is something I wrote in a DU reply shortly before the news broke about Cohen’s Opening Statement. It seems more relevant now.

I haven’t see enough anger in Harris for my liking. I’m looking for steel. An aide described her run as the ’Truth and Justice’ campaign. If the scandals surrounding the Trump Administration really blow up, that’s exactly what the people will be looking for in 2020: Truth and Justice.

Obama does not do anger. I’ve been frustrated over the years by his dictum, ‘When they go Low, we go High’. Sometimes he didn’t appear to defend himself.

Watching his Eulogy for McCain, I got it: The Golden Rule. Do unto others ... A man of faith. Turn other cheek when necessary. Nobody could have shifted him. He lives it. The President sang Amazing Grace.

Dems can not afford to play softball with the MAGA criminals, but perhaps we don’t have to go low. Justice. The sword of justice cutting out the filthy weeds that have taken root in the executive branch.

Resignation’s not enough. Prosecution that’s the stuff. That’s a Watergate era call to arms. Who better to answer the call than a candidate prosecuting her case with a ready laugh and disarming smile. For the people.

Except from the McCain Eulogy:-

Roosevelt speaks of those who strive, who dare to do great things, who sometimes win and sometimes come up short but always relish a good fight. A contrast to those cold, timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat. Isn't that the spirit we celebrate this week? That striving to be better, to do better, worthy of the great inheritance that our founders bestowed. So much of our politics, our public life, our public discourse can seem small and mean and petty. Trafficking in bombastic manufactured outrage, it's politics that pretends to be brave and tough, but in fact is born of fear.

Trump may trade in fear, but his politics are born out of cruelty and malice. IMO

You dont need to pound a podium or scream profanities.. quiet, calm, thoughtful, firm, serious demeanor usually works better. Much like President Obama.

When another young black man’s life is snufed out by a cop, AAs are expected to show respect. Respectful indignation, but respect none the less. Even taking the knee is too confrontational. What I want to see in Kamala is steel. I accept others may want something else.

EDIT: I guess what I want is a candidate who does try to ‘heal away’ the outrage Democrats are feeling today.
