(58,361 posts)Democracy Now! is an hour-long American TV, radio and internet news program hosted by journalists Amy Goodman, who also acts as the show's executive producer, and Juan González.[1] The show, which airs live each weekday at 08:00 ET, is broadcast on the internet and by over 1,400 radio and television stations worldwide.[2]

Democracy Now Productions, the independent nonprofit organization which produces Democracy Now!, is funded entirely through contributions from listeners, viewers, and foundations such as the Ford Foundation,[not in citation given] Lannan Foundation, J.M. Kaplan Fund,[4][5][6][unreliable source?] and does not accept advertisers, corporate underwriting or government funding.[7]

Democracy Now! and its staff have received several journalism awards, including the Gracie Award from American Women in Radio & Television;[24] the George Polk Award for its 1998 radio documentary Drilling and Killing: Chevron and Nigeria's Oil Dictatorship, on the Chevron Corporation and the deaths of two Nigerian villagers protesting an oil spill;[25] and Goodman with Allan Nairn won Robert F. Kennedy Memorial's First Prize in International Radio for their 1993 report, Massacre: The Story of East Timor which involved first-hand coverage of genocide during the Indonesian occupation of East Timor.[26]
On October 1, 2008, Goodman was named as a recipient of the 2008 Right Livelihood Award,[27] in connection with her years of work establishing Democracy Now! and in 2009, she, like her frequent guest Glenn Greenwald, was awarded the first annual Izzy Award (named after journalist I. F. "Izzy" Stone) for "special achievement in independent media."[28] Her co-host Juan Gonzalez was inducted into the New York chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists' Hall of Fame on November 19, 2015.[29][30]

(8,144 posts)Disinformation and smear campaign going to ramp way up. Expect more YouTube mashups, more insistence that Biden exercises a touching fetish onstage with women and children, posters accusing him of unforgivable acts towards children in front of their families, filmed for posterity, and I do not put it past conservatives to do a false-flag whereby they infiltrate or front a progressive group and put up a compelling story about creepy Uncle Joe to jive with the misogynistic molesting Biden meme already in play.

(47,430 posts)it has only just begun, but fortunately, Joe has been through it before, so he is undoubtedly prepared. However, as a long time Biden supporter, I have a bad habit of taking it personally on his behalf. I am determined to tune it out this time, it is emotionally exhausting!

(68,576 posts)Sanders has a record too. Did you know he voted for the crime bill and against Russian sanctions ( or wasn't there for the vote) numerous times. He also voted against the immigration bill and don't get me started on his mixed record on LGBTQ. Maybe we should hang out in this decade and century.

(47,430 posts)It would be best if we hung out in "this decade and century". The longer someone has been politics, the more baggage he/she accumulates. There is always a bigger story behind every vote.
Joe brings a wealth of valuable experience with him, it is inevitable that there would be some baggage mixed in as well.

(15,512 posts)They LOVED Glenn Greenwald and his hater pals, like uber-nitwit Jeremy Scahil, who used to get on every day to "report" that Barack Obama was a bigger menace to the world than Bush-Cheney because drones.
They also loved Edward Snowden, Chris Hedges, Noam Chomsky and every other righteous nutjob.
