I think Beto O'Rourke is going to be the next President of the United States.

That is, of course, assuming Trump isn't impeached. Which is a risky assumption.

I'll just say that I think Beto O'Rourke is going to be sworn in as POTUS on Jan 20, 2021.

He has the Obama charisma, and that's what we need to beat Trump. I'm glad he's running.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Nothing against Beto. Sounds like a fine Democrat and I'm glad we have him in our party. But we need to concentrate on getting a female president this time and a strategy for the Electoral College (don't get me started there).

Are not this gender or that gender isn’t exactly the same as what we are against.

I don’t think everyone realizes how this is NOT a slam dunk. We do not have the luxury of choosing our personal favorite people. We have to first and foremost insure that trump does not get re-elected. Many believe there was rigging in WI, MI, and PA. What’s to keep Trussia from doing that again? We either have to win those back with a double digit lead in polls or make it up with Texas, Florida and/or North Carolina.

I'm voting for the nominee no matter what, but it's no more "time for a female President" than it is time for a President from any other marginalized group.

Because if that's the case I'm sure Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachman would be happy to oblige you.

The right or wrong policies can be advocated by any President, regardless of what's between their legs. To insinuate women are unrepresented simply because a woman hasn't occupied the seat completely ignores the reality that 40% of women are anti-choice and would be the completely WRONG direction for our country.

They have remarkably parallel resumes, actually. Beto had three terms on El Paso's City Council, which is a job much closer to the people, in terms of making government work for the community, but is comparable in power and skillset to state senator. And before that he was a... (wait for it) community organizer.

The real test of leadership, of course, isn't what jobs they've held, but what they did with the jobs they had and the ability to inspire people to get out, get organized, and get involved. Again, the similarities are striking.

With the experience and depth of the field this election I'm afraid he isn't going to get the chance to shine. I was hoping he would hold off and build himself up as I see him our future.

He has tons of potential, he ran a fantastic, gutsy campaign in 2018 and I wanted him urgently to win that race, but I don't think he's ready yet to run for president. He has a bright future ahead, but I don't see him as president. That is, not YET
(That said, I'd definitely vote for him, with enthusiasm, if he won the general nomination - in part because if he DID win, that in itself would allay some of my concerns that he's not ready).

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Met with Biden and Obama, right? They both know they need Texas to flip for insurance if trussia rigs the big three - MI, WI, and PA. Beto probably realizes he’s a bit too unripe to win the presidency. But in my dreams, the three agree that for the exposure he will run and be joes running mate when joe wins. It does have risk though.

While I agree that you need charisma (Gore, Kerry, H. Clinton lacked it where as Trump has it), I'm still waiting on judging the other candidates.

I can only speak for Booker because I've seen him speak a few times (and met him). My first impression of him was when he did an event for Jon Corzine in 2009. I looked at my friend and said he was the next Obama.

I think Beto and Biden will make it harder for one another, which is one reason I don't think either will be the nominee.

Elizabeth Warren lacks likability. She comes across as flighty and she and Bernie will split the Northeast votes
Biden and Bernie are too old. Too much baggage for both.
Cory Booker I like him but I think the way Obama brought out the racism on the right it may not be time for another AA man
I think Kamala Harris can only inspire women men still resent having a women in charge . Maybe as VP
Some of the others are too moderate for the progressives.
Beto has it all. Young, energetic ,inspiring and has Obama's Charm .

The situation is that urgent, and what it will take to meet it is an enormous effort requiring sweeping changes to...just about everything.

I'm sure that's why AOC is the bogey-man du jour for conservatives (in addition to being a young minority woman). This Changes Everything (h/t Naomi Klein), particularly the necessary role of the government versus the "market." We're out of time, we can't do baby steps or incrementalism or anything like that. Time, more than any time in our lives, we CAN NOT let trump stay in there past 2020. We will be lucky to survive until then for that matter.

It is a time to look at this with a completely rational head. Who has our basic core values and can win. It’s a sacrifice because joe is not as progressive as the favorites here. He is more of a compromiser.

But, if you think about it, you can see his glass half full very easily

working class roots
Takes the train home, doesn’t profit from success, family guy
Most qualified (been in White House !)
Likable
Works with other side
Can win in WI, PA, and MI which we have to win
Has best chance to win Texas which we need if trussia rigs Wi, MI, and PA
He can pick a younger vp which will mitigate the “he’s too old” factor
He’s for free community college
He’s got tremendous foreign policy experience
He matches the mainstream dem opinion that we need to moderate to beat trump
Won’t be affected by trumps slam of how we’ve become too socialist
Can draw anti trump repukes who won’t vote for a more progressive candidate
He can place great progressives in high government positions in cabinet

What if he gets in and squelches the progressive agenda? Perhaps our great gains in the house will make that less likely to happen. I’d still rather take a chance on that vs taking a chance that trump won’t blow us up.

I picture a senior voting for Biden with a young intelligent optimistic type VP by his side. They would be so proud that we honored age, wisdom, decency and experience, while at the same time mentoring the next generation - someone who might remind them of their grandkids.

He is not perfect. Is anyone? I think we have two types of politicians...those who will not vote for any legislation if there is a single part they don’t like. The other side will compromise if they get a lot of what they want. Biden is definitely in the latter.

I am a donor to Beto and I have deep ties to the oil industry. Texas is an oil state. Many people who live in Texas work for the oil industry. When I gave money to Beto that is callled ties to the oil industry according to Sirota. I am a life long Democrat and donor to all things Democratic. I find it deeply offensive to be considered a tainted. Bite me.

talking points/smears/insults regardless of facts because it props up the one-size-fits-all views of Sanders attacks on corporations, etc. For instance, I was called a “corporatist” because I don’t support Sanders, but we are actually a union household, a mainstay of the Democratic Party.

They don’t want to accept the facts you present because it takes away from Sanders generic attacks. Anything that is a threat to Sanders is treated the same way, and Beto is a threat.

government and especially in states like Texas. We, as humans, face an existential crisis because of the burning of fossil fuels. We have a number of great candidates without the ties to the fossil fuel industry O'Rourke has. Here's what your preferred candidate said recently,

Senator Bernie Sanders (D., Vt.) dismissed Friday the notion that the recently introduced Green New Deal plan is extreme and unrealistic, arguing instead that there is no action too drastic for the government to take to address climate change.

“Does the Green New Deal go too far?” Sunny Hostin asked Sanders Friday on ABC’s The View.

“No. You cannot go too far on the issue of climate change. The future of the planet is at stake, ok? . . . According to the best scientists in the world, we have twelve years to begin substantially cutting carbon emissions,” Sanders responded.

What do you think?

He may not have the experience yet. And he'd be pounded on that issue.

But to have him as the VP candidate, and the exposure that would give him, and thus help draw more D voters, especially in the south?....priceless

Then he can take over for the next 8 years.

Given the competition he’d be up against, lack of experience is argument he’ll have to battle. I’ve seen him go up against the “experienced” though, and he did pretty damn good.

In the General, I fucking dare them to say anything about experience after electing no political or military experience at ALL Orange Hitler in the last cycle though.

He has limited officeholder experience compared to many in the field, and he lost his last run for office.

Does he have key issues that are his passion?

A candidate is needed that can win and that will govern effectively. I hope all the candidates make their case in both areas.
