(12,439 posts)You should pull up this address at the Electrical Workers' Union. The speech itself was undercut by the hugging nonsense but the points Joe Biden covered were strong, on the mark. He hit all the buttons on this one: workers' rights, union protections, inequality, education, green energy prospects, climate change, immigration, etc.
It was the full mantle of Democratic principles and focus. In addition, he added the vision thing: Our need to unite as a country, as a people. How the United States is a country which has always done Big Things and how we need to take that legacy and fasten on future challenges and possibilities. How we cannot shirk our responsibility of being a leader in the world and how the world at large is worse off without our active participation and passion. How that leadership doesn't mean shrinking into a corner, isolating ourselves from allies and/or foes but opening our arms wide in purpose and welcome.
It's worth a listen because it's pure Biden and pure Americana, the sort of message we desperately need right now. We're a country that has done Big Things, not without mistakes or stumbles. Despite the errors of the past or falling short on basic principles, Biden is encouraging us all to dust ourselves off, get back in the saddle. Do it again, do it better.
Excellent speech!

(12,439 posts)It was a shame that the speech was undercut by the touchy-feely brouhaha. It was one of Biden's best deliveries. But he has time to repeat, enhance and present additional speeches in the following weeks. In fact, I've read that's the plan following the official announcement.
Look forward to it!
