Gilead Pharmaceuticals got a similar boost to sell Tamiflu as the government-approved treatment of choice for bird flu back about 15 years ago, even though there was an equally effective generic medicine available as well. At that time, the Chairman of the Board of Directors was none other than Donald Rumsfeld, so it was a pretty blatant example of corruption. Not sure who's on their Board now, but I'll bet a lot of names would be familiar.

Hopefully others will follow Bernie's lead on this one.
