Israeli forces withdrew from Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City today after a two-week raid that has left most of the medical complex in ruins. Since October, Gaza's health sector has been completely decimated, leaving only a dozen hospitals partially functional as the entire medical infrastructure is relentlessly shelled, besieged and raided. We speak to British Palestinian reconstructive surgeon Ghassan Abu-Sittah, who spent over a month treating patients at Al-Shifa and Al-Ahli Baptist hospitals. He pays tribute to Dr. Ahmad Maqadmeh, a fellow surgeon that was found killed today alongside his mother at Al-Shifa. "I blame the Western journalists, who perpetuated the narrative that militarized the hospital as a justifiable and acceptable target," says Abu-Sittah about Maqadmeh's death. "This was a war Israel declared on Palestinian children," he later concludes, "because Palestinian children represent the Palestinian tomorrow that is incompatible with the Zionist settler-colonial project." Plus, we hear from a trauma surgeon currently volunteering at the European Hospital in Khan Younis. Dr. Feroze Sidhwa describes the scene at the hospital as a squalid shelter for thousands of refugees. "There's no privacy, no dignity for any of these people," he says.

Writing for Lebanese newspaper Al Akhbar in 2018, Abu-Sittah hailed Ahmad Jarrar, who masterminded the murder of father-of-six Rabbi Raziel Shevach in a drive-by shooting near Nablus, as one of Palestine’s “dearest and best sons” and a “hero”.

The doctor wrote: “The martyrdom of the resistance member Ahmed Nasr Jarrar, the hero of the Nablus operation, at the hands of the Zionist occupation army… like the hundreds of resistance fighters who were martyred at the hands of this satanic alliance, represents a pivotal moment.”

In 2019, Abu-Sittah was pictured sitting next to the notorious hijacker Leila Khaled at a memorial for a leader of terror group Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) Maher Al-Yemani.

In 2020, a year after Al-Yemani’s death, Dr Abu Sitta delivered an emotional eulogy at his graveside in Beirut which was captured on camera and exposed by the JC last December.

Pelosi protester faces felony charges over Gaza cease-fire demonstration

An activist affiliated with the anti-war group Code Pink is facing felony charges for causing damage around Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco residence during a Feb. 11 demonstration.

Last month, Code Pink circulated a video showing Pelosi telling a Code Pink protester, “Go back to China, where your headquarters is.”

Pelosi was referring to a New York Times investigation that revealed extensive ties between Code Pink’s co-founder, Jodie Evans, and groups promoting the agenda of the Chinese Communist Party.

That exchange took place on Oct. 29, coinciding with the one-year anniversary of the attack on Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, which left him hospitalized with severe injuries. The attacker, David DePape, told investigators he sought to hold Nancy Pelosi hostage.

A Houthi court sentenced nine men to death on charges of “sodomy,” Human Rights Watch has found, while sentencing an additional 23 men to prison.

An investigation by the organization revealed that the 32 men were sentenced earlier this year on January 23. The nine death sentences included crucifixion and stoning, and an additional three were sentenced to public flogging, marking one of the most harrowing cases of civilians being sentenced for “immoral acts" under the conservative Islamist regime.

“In an abhorrent disregard for the rule of law, the Houthis are handing down death sentences and subjecting men to public mistreatment without a semblance of due process,” Niku Jafarnia, Yemen and Bahrain researcher at Human Rights Watch, said in a statement. “The Houthis are using these cruel measures to distract from their failure to govern and provide people in their territories with basic needs.”

The sentences were handed down after "egregious violations of Yemen’s own criminal procedural code," according to the organization. This included "blatant due process violations" such as law enforcement failing to provide arrest warrants and unlawfully confiscating the men’s phones.
