Education is funded by local property taxes. And they're high in a majority of districts.

Education makes up a substantial percentage of the municipal taxes.

The taxes on the house I sold was over $17,000 annually for a half-acre with a house.

Add to that equation the SALT federal tax deduction is limited to $10,000.

As much as a high-quality education adds to the property values, it also becomes a burden.

When federal funding ends in September, it will be a hard sell to replace it with local financing.

I'm a teacher and don't want local education to suffer or for another teacher to be unemployed.

I suppose that not a lot of Board of Education trustees and the Feds were thinking in terms of temporary status of the funding.
