Related: About this forumPete Hegseth stuns with insane announcement - Another Day - Brian Tyler Cohen
BTC: The Trump administration goes to war again. This time with the media. This is just another day.
While the Trump administration may have just started their war with Iran, they have been waging a separate war with the media for years and today, we got a few glimpses of that brutal fight.
(cut to video from MS NOW at Pentagon)
Pete Hegseth: This is what the fake news misses. We've taken control of Iran's airspace and waterways without boots on the ground. We control their fate. But when a few drones get through or tragic things happen, it's front page news. I get it. The press only wants to make the president look bad, but try for once to report the reality.
(cut to studio)
BTC: The reality is exactly what they're reporting. Apologies if the placement of these real stories about the tragic deaths of men and women in our military isn't to the geographical location of your liking. If action hero Pete Hegseth had his way, everyday's newspaper would just say, "Trump is crushing this shit." Yes, Pete Hegseth fucking hates the media. Well, not the good ones who deliver trustworthy news in a wet t-shirt while taking champagne straight to the dome. He hates the unprofessional ones who are constantly pestering members of this administration for answers.
(cut to video)
Hegseth: I heard the question about uh about four weeks. It's the typical typical NBC sort of gotcha type question.
(cut to studio)
BTC: Classic gotcha question asking how long the war will last. I'm actually surprised he called the media out and didn't simply respond with
(cut to video)
Pam Bondi: The Dow is over 50,000
(cut to studio)
BTC: Because that excuse always works. Now, Hegseth says disdain for the press is nothing new. I mean, who wouldn't hate people who reported that your mother called you an abuser of women? I'd imagine reading reporting like that could make you so mad that well, I don't want to give him any ideas.
But specifically when it comes to Iran, the Secretary of Defense has been putting up with this bullshit for months.
(cut to video snips from Forbes at NATO conference)
Hegseth: Uh there's a reason the president uh calls out fake news for what it is.
And then the instinct, the instinct of CNN, the instinct of the New York Times is to try to find a way to spin it for their own political reasons to try to hurt President Trump or our country.
So if you want to make an assessment of what happened at Fordow, you better get a big shovel and go really deep because Iran's nuclear program is obliterated.
(cut to studio)
BTC: I suppose after using that giant shovel to inspect Iran's nuclear program, it was then used to scoop up all of Mr. Hegseths bullshit because normally you don't go to war over a nuclear program when you've already obliterated said nuclear program. That would be like punching someone when they're already down.
(cut to video from Pentagon)
Hegseth: We are punching them while they're down, which is exactly how it should be.
(cut to studio)
BTC: Okay. Yeah. No, this all tracks then. But Hegseth wasn't the only member of this administration who waged war against the media today.
(cut to video at White House Press Room)
Caitlyn Collins: Hegseth was complaining that it was front page news about these six service members who were killed.
Karoline Leavitt: That's not what the secretary said, Caitlyn, and that's not what the secretary meant. And you know it. You know, you are being disingenuous. There is not. We've never had a secretary of defense who cares more?
Collins: Get through or tragic things happen. It's front page news. I get it. The press only wants to make the president look bad. Did you know we ask about deaths of US service members under every president?
Leavitt: The press does only want to make the president look bad.
(cut to studio)
BTC: Well, then why do you make their job so easy? Did the press place attacks on American consumers? Did the press not release the Epstein files? Did the press sexually abuse E. Jean Carroll? I guess Karoline Leavitt's take is why isn't the press talking about the millions of women Donald Trump didn't abuse?
Now, to be fair, Karoline Leavitt wasn't targeting all media, merely the network Dear Leader despises most.
(cut to video)
Leavitt: If you're trying to argue right now that CNN's overwhelming coverage is not negative of President Donald Trump, I think the American people would tend to agree and your ratings would tend to disagree with that as well.
(cut to studio)
BTC: That's right. CNN is total garbage and the American public deserves unbiased coverage in their news.
(cut to video from Fox News)
Jesse Watters: Now we know why we can't rely on NATO for Greenland. They won't let us use their bases to fight the number one state sponsor of terror. The United States is doing the world a favor and the administration says it was now or never. This war is going well. It's ahead of schedule and
(cut to video from Fox News)
Harris Faulkner: President Trump knows about timing. You've worked with him. Your thoughts?
Larry Kudlow: Yes, he does. Um I just want to echo uh Emily's points. What what Mr. Trump has done is brought back patriotism.
(cut to video from Fox News)
Jesse Watters: We're crushing them. and you're hearing people say, "Oh, well, the attack wasn't imminent." Why would you wait for an Iranian attack to be imminent so you can justify it to Democrats?
(cut to studio)
BTC: Like that? See, Americans don't want to watch reporters search for facts or those callous words like why. They want intrepid journalists to do the job that they were trained for. Being a cog in a 24-hour blowjob machine and not calling an administration out on their bullshit is actually quite easy. Watch.
(cut to video)
Karoline Leavitt: When President Trump makes a threat, and I have reiterated that threat many times from this podium to all of you over the past year, President Trump does not bluff, right?
(cut to studio)
BTC: No bluffing ever. So, I will continue being a patriotic member of the media and not point out any of the times Trump bluffed after making a threat because if I play clips like these, the terrorists win.
(cut to video)
News Report 1: Well, after months of back and forth, the Trump administration said last week that it would not try to defend an executive order around DEI in schools.
(cut to video)
News Report 2: President Trump backs down after his aggressive efforts to acquire Greenland.
(cut to video)
News Report 3: Two days after tariffs hit imports from Canada and Mexico, President Trump now reversing his decision.
(cut to studio)
BTC: See, never bluffs. Americans have a right to be informed. They have a right to know that the man who campaigned on rooting out corruption in Washington has in the first year of his second term made $4 billion. But people like Pete Hegseth and Karoline Leavitt think that headlines should just read Trump is baller.
The Trump administration's war with the media, unlike their war with Iran, is rooted in strategy. When Donald Trump, Pete Hegseth, Karoline Leavitt, or anyone else sews distrust in the media, it immediately lends itself to the idea that truth as a whole is obliterated. No one knows what to believe. And it is in that very vacuum where authoritarianism thrives. Chaos is their friend. Because when people don't know what to believe, their lies can take hold.
(cut to video)
Trump: ABC is a terrible network, a very unfair network, and you should be ashamed of yourself. NBC is equally bad. I I don't know who's worse. I think they're equally bad.
(cut to video)
Trump: I think you are a terrible reporter {to Caitlyn Collins}.
(cut to video)
Trump: I'll tell you what, CNN should be ashamed of itself having you working for them. You are a rude, terrible person. You shouldn't be working for CNN.
(cut to studio)
BTC: That's right. There's only one place for rude and terrible people to work. The White House.
When there is disorder and confusion in society, people desperately cling to promises of a solution. If Trump can make people believe that our elections aren't secure, then people will get on board with his authoritarian tactics to secure them. If he can make people believe our cities are unsafe, apocalyptic hellscapes, then people will get on board with his illegal and tyrannical moves to return them to safety. If the president can make voters believe that the Epstein files are a hoax perpetuated by the Democrats, then people will get on board with his defying the law and not releasing them.
And right now, if this administration can convince our nation to believe that Iran was milliseconds away from nuking America and that every aspect of this war is going according to plan, then people will ideally get on board with them breaking one of their biggest campaign promises. Billions of American taxpayer dollars are being used to wage a war that was launched with zero strategy, zero evacuation plans, and zero timeline. So the question is not why are journalists being unpatriotic, but instead why is our entire administration? But maybe that's just a
(cut to video)
Hegseth: sort of gotcha type question.
(cut to studio)
BTC: Exactly.
