Pam Bondi humiliated with botched announcement - Another Day - Brian Tyler Cohen

BTC: Pam Bondi says that being an American is a privilege, not a right. I guess that's why they call it birth privilege citizenship. This is just another day.

I'll be honest with you. While I clearly like to dabble in the world of politics, I'm by no means an expert. In fact, I'm learning new things every single day about this great country of ours.

(cut to video from Fox News)
Pam Bondi: Being a citizen in our country is a privilege. It's not a right.

(cut to studio)
BTC: Yeah. Take that 14th Amendment to the Constitution. You thought you could explicitly guarantee citizenship to anyone born or naturalized in the United States, but it ain't a right. It's a privilege. Like getting to stay up late on a school night or getting to stay in your job after lying about your friendship with a pedophile.

(inset video)
Howard Lutnick: We had lunch on the island. That is true for an hour.

BTC: See, that's not just white billionaire privilege. It's an American privilege, too. Now, this assertion about citizenship would be a pretty wild claim if it was coming from your drunken MAGA uncle at Thanksgiving. But the fact that it's coming from the top law enforcement official in the United States should probably throw up some red flags.

But what about Pam Bondi is saying pretty much falls in line with everything else this administration and the Republican party as a whole has been trying to do for years, which is to decide who is American enough to be called an American. Sure, this guy might technically be an American [inset photo of Bad Bunny], but he doesn't feel as American as him [inset photo of Kid Rock]. I mean, after all, cut off jean shorts are practically our nation's uniform. But the question remains, how hard is it going to be to get this country of ours so perfectly patriotic?

(cut to video from Fox News)
Lisa Boothe: How difficult is it to secure denaturalization? Because I know in in Congress there's been legislation like the Scam Act introduced to make it, but it's not easy to secure denaturalization. Walk us through that.

Pam Bondi: Yeah, it's not, Lisa, and thank you for bringing that up because yeah, we would love to get some tougher laws from Congress on this.

(cut to studio)
BTC: Oh, so when it comes to this, you're willing to go to Congress, but when it comes to launching a war, you were cool with just leaving a post-it note on the fridge. But according to Pam Bondi, there was simply certain issues we can't neglect.

(cut to video from Fox News)
Pam Bondi: President Trump is looking at all this. This is about keeping our world safe, and that's what he is committed to doing. No one in this country is above the law.

(cut to studio)
BTC: That's right. No one. So, if you're even thinking of committing a crime, you better think again because once Lady Justice gets her hands on you, you are going to be in deep shit. Unless, of course, you get your mother to cough up a million dollars to attend a Donald Trump dinner, or you own a billion-dollar crypto company that can boost the president's financial portfolio, or you have an incredibly white reality show, or you're a true patriot with access to some zip ties and a Trump flag. But other than all of that, [snorts] watch out.

What's clear is the attorney general is laser focused on cleaning up our nation. Now, I'm not exactly sure which specific group of evildoers they've set their sights on as of today, but..

(inset video)
Pam Bondi: We're focused on sex offenders.

BTC: Um, I'm I'm sorry. What's that now? Did you say sex offenders? Uh, I don't know how to tell you this, but I think that your focus needs some refocusing.

(cut to video from White House Cabinet meeting)
Trump: Are you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein?

(cut to video from Fox News)
Pam Bondi: It's sitting on my desk right now to review.

(cut to video)
Reporter: As of tonight, the Department of Justice is nearly two weeks late in releasing the case files of federal investigations of Epstein.

(cut to video from Fox News)
Trump: It's a hoax. The whole thing is a hoax.

(cut to video from CBS News Chicago)
Victor Jacobo: At least 15 newly released files disappear from the DOJ's website. It is not clear as to why that happened.

(cut to video from Good Morning America)
Reporter: The billionaire told the committee he has never been questioned by the FBI.

(cut to video)
Pam Bondi: The Dow is over 50,000. I don't know why you're laughing. You're a great stock trader as I hear Raskin. The Dow is over 50,000 right now.

(cut to studio)
BTC: Come on, people. How can you worry about all that raping when your stocks are simply crushing it? The reality is what we're watching is just one more example of the bait and switch being executed by the GOP. They promised their party would make things cheaper, but now everything's more expensive. They promised to lower inflation, but now inflation's going up. They promised to release the Epstein files, but there's still 3 million files missing. They promised to end foreign wars, but now this might as well be America's ringtone [sound of Tomahawk missile launch].

Over and over again, Donald Trump and the Republican party vowed that every action they took would be driven by their America First mentality. And not only have they done the opposite, they are literally celebrating their hypocrisy.

(cut to video from C-SPAN)
Mike Johnson: The president has done so much for the American people, and we want to honor him in some small way, some token of our appreciation for his leadership and so tonight we have created a new award. Uh we have uh we're going to do something we've never done before. We're going to honor him with a new award that we will present annually from this point forward. But he is the suitable and fitting recipient of of the first ever America First Award. We can think of no better title for what that is. That's this beautiful golden statue here. Appropriate for the new golden era in America.

(cut to studio)
BTC: Look at that. This honor is such bullshit even the award itself is trying to fly away. We now have an administration that promised they had no intention of shoving themselves into our lives. Explicitly shoving themselves into our lives. This is truly the most overbearing big government we've ever had. They tell you what TV shows are acceptable.

(cut to video on Air Force One from Fox News)
Trump: When you have a network and you have evening shows and all they do is hit Trump, they're licensed. They're not allowed to do that. They're an arm of the Democrat party.

(cut to studio)
BTC: They tell you what books you can read.

(cut to video)
Reporter: The Pentagon has removed nearly 400 books on race, gender, and sexuality from the Naval Academy's library.

(cut to studio)
BTC: Now, they're even dictating what medicine you should be taking.

(cut to video)
Trump: With Tylenol--don't take it. Don't take it. And if you can't live, if your fever is so bad, you have to take one because there's no alternative to that. Sadly, first question, what can you take instead? It's actually there's not an alternative to that.

(cut to studio)
BTC: And if I'm going to take medical advice from one person, that person is going to be old dead hand vagina neck McGee. Donald Trump and the GOP love to wrap themselves in the flag and claim their love for America is stronger than everybody else's, but they are the ones trying to transform this democracy that they claim to adore into a dictatorship. They put Dear Leader face on all our government buildings, host military parades on his birthday, mint coins with his face on them and just today, some low-level staffer threw out the idea of a little geographical name change.

(cut to video)
Trump: But they have to open it up. They have to open up the Strait of Trump. I mean, Hormuz.

(cut to studio)
BTC: Whoops. I believe that's what's referred to as an authoritarian slip. Very similar to a Freudian slip, except instead of it being an error from the subconscious, it is a directive to everybody on his team to do whatever it takes to make it fucking happen.

Pam Bondi, Donald Trump, and the rest of the sycophantic GOP can talk as much as they want about how much they love America, but when every action they take is explicitly anti-American, it rings a tad hollow. Being American means that you have the right to read what you want, watch what you want, say what you want, and look how you want, even if it happens to upset the people who are in charge at the moment.

(cut to video from Fox News)
Pam Bondi: Being a citizen in our country is a privilege. It's not a right.

(cut to studio)
BTC: I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

There was a point early in my career when I transcribed a few recordings of my supervisor who was an attorney into correspondence so I would have to stop and rewind the tape to get the job done. Obviously, this transcription takes a bit more time with the various cuts for scenes and speakers, but thankfully I don't have to type all of the text. Hopefully, I capture the mood of Brian's commentary and it's a good test of my editing skills.

I let AI do the heavy lifting as far as getting a rough transcription or summary for the videos, but until AI can enhance a transcript like I'm doing here, my job is safe [I'm STILL waiting for my paycheck from Soros].
