1. I had to warn my wife about HFCS

When we went food shopping in the USA, I told her to avoid buying anything with HFCS. It has been illegal so long here in the EU, she didn’t even know what it was.

2. That's not surprising, it's ridiculous that most other countries label these precautions, but not the U.S.

A lot of us mistakenly buy something not good for us - or that tastes awful (I can't stand saccharine) - without reading the fine print. But according to all that Thom said, it's not going to happen here anytime soon. Good that you knew and were able to warn your wife.

I have noticed that many cheaper restaurants, at least in the eastern states, offer Smuckers jam or marmalade with breakfast. Smuckers uses HFCS in all their jams and marmalades. I avoid them like the plague, as would anyone with a strong family history of cancer.

7. I usually don't eat toast, either, but as most any Russian will tell you

They often use marmalade to sweeten their tea. I am a big tea drinker, and I always use marmalade instead of sugar or honey. Cinnamon or orange peel-clove tea sweetened with apricot marmalade—make my day!

And when my mother made my lunch for school, no peanut butter and jelly for me, my favorite was peanut butter and butter on raisin bread!

My dad liked bread with peanut butter and mayonnaise, which, as far as I know, is a favorite torture tool used by the Taliban.

10. LOL! When I was a kid I hated mayonnaise, now I can stand it, but certainly not with peanut butter!

My Dad liked bologna - not in a sandwich, not a fan of bread, just plain! And my brother seems to have inherited his appetite, plain bologna and soup, his favorite lunch.

That would rank about 368th for me.
