Today's 2nd Reading. James 5:1-6. Presented without comment.

Come now, you rich, weep and wail over your impending miseries.
Your wealth has rotted away, your clothes have become moth-eaten,
your gold and silver have corroded,
and that corrosion will be a testimony against you;
it will devour your flesh like a fire.
You have stored up treasure for the last days.
Behold, the wages you withheld from the workers
who harvested your fields are crying aloud;
and the cries of the harvesters
have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts.
You have lived on earth in luxury and pleasure;
you have fattened your hearts for the day of slaughter.
You have condemned;
you have murdered the righteous one;
he offers you no resistance.

Michigan wind farm opponents look to heliports for help

Some residents of Michigan's rural northwestern Lower Peninsula are applying for permits to establish heliports in their efforts to block rural wind turbine development.

Turbines can't be built near the liftoff and landing pads for helicopters, and observers say the tactic could gain momentum statewide, the Traverse City Record-Eagle reported Wednesday.

Benzie County's Joyfield Township once was considered part of a site for a proposed wind farm. The community of 800 now could soon have up to eight licensed, stand-alone public heliports. That comes after Joyfield Township residents last year recalled three township trustees and replaced them with wind farm project opponents.

Heliports could prevent construction of wind turbines or any structure taller than 200 feet within almost a one-mile radius of the landing pads, the state said. According to the township, at least one permit has gone to a resident who wanted to figure out a way to prevent wind turbine development.

3 Ron Paul-Supporting Electors May Not Support Republican Ticket

At least three Republican electors say they may not support their party's presidential ticket when the Electoral College meets in December to formally elect the new president, escalating tensions within the GOP and adding a fresh layer of intrigue to the final weeks of the White House race.

The electors – all are supporters of former GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul – told The Associated Press they are exploring options should Mitt Romney win their states. They expressed frustration at how Republican leaders have worked to suppress Paul's conservative movement and his legion of loyal supporters.

"They've never given Ron Paul a fair shot, and I'm disgusted with that. I'd like to show them how disgusted I am," said Melinda Wadsley, an Iowa mother of three who was selected a Republican elector earlier this year. She said she believes Paul is the better choice and noted that the Electoral College was founded with the idea that electors wouldn't just mimic the popular vote.

The defection of multiple electors would be unprecedented in the last 116 years of U.S. politics. And it would raise the remote possibility that the country could even end up with a president and vice president from different parties.

How Bill Clinton's Speech Impacted This Arkansas Delegate (hours after his grandmother's death)

Arkansas delegate Chris Burks started his day by receiving tragic news. He ended it, as he put it, "triumphantly."

Burks found out early Wednesday morning that his grandmother had passed away at the age of 92. He decided to stay for former President Bill Clinton's speech.

He was glad he did.

The speech touched him in a personal way. Burks and his grandmother shared a love of politics. The common thread was always Arkansas' own Bill Clinton. And Burks said his grandmother instilled in him some of the ideals that Clinton talked about on Wednesday.

Senate Candidate Berg (R-ND): Life Sentences For Rape Victims Who Obtain Abortions

http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/09/04/790351/gop-senate-candidate-supported-life-sentences-for-rape-victims-who-obtain-abortions/

Rep. Rick Berg (R-ND), the candidate for Senate from North Dakota, once voted for a bill that would have made any woman who obtained an abortion guilty of a homicide crime — even if it were in the case of rape or incest. Indeed, the bill Berg supported does not even contain an explicit exception if an abortion is necessary to save the woman’s life.

In 2007, Berg was among the small number of state representatives in the North Dakota House who supported the measure. It also would have imposed penalties on doctors and anyone else who “aids, abets, facilitates, solicits, or incites” a person into an abortion:

"Disappointment isn’t the dominant emotion held by Democratic delegates," declares Politico

Wow. This is a whopper of a lede.

CHARLOTTE — Disappointment isn’t the dominant emotion held by Democratic delegates as they gather here in this critical swing state to launch their president’s formal bid for reelection.

That's supposed to be the big news from the Democratic National Convention - that people aren't disappointed?

Wow, Politico.

Several paragraphs later, they declare:

If there is one thing that comes through loud and clear in interviews with Democratic delegates attending the convention here, it’s that Obama’s base is far more passionate about him than Republicans seem to be about Romney. At the GOP’s muted convention, all anyone could talk about was Wisconsin lawmaker and vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan — not Romney.

Emphasis mine.

So they are passionate, but the way Politico spins it is that disappointment "isn't the dominant emotion" among DNC delegates.
