Trump doctor hid cauliflower in mashed potatoes to improve diet: report

Source: The Hill

President Trump’s former doctor reportedly hid cauliflower in his mashed potatoes in an attempt to improve the president’s diet.

Former White House physician Ronny Jackson told The New York Times that he regretted leaving his position before he could implement the diet and exercise regimen planned for Trump.

“The exercise stuff never took off as much as I wanted it to,” he said. “But we were working on his diet. We were making the ice cream less accessible, we were putting cauliflower into the mashed potatoes.”

Jackson announced in an early 2018 press conference that he intended to help the president lose 10 to 15 pounds and transport an exercise bike or elliptical machine into the White House, according to the Times.

Ancient humans lived through a massive volcanic eruption 74,000 years ago

CNN

About 74,000 years ago, Sumatra's Mount Toba experienced a super-eruption -- an event scientists suspect was large enough to wipe out a majority of early humans living at the time, slowing down the spread of humanity.

But researchers have discovered evidence that Homo sapiens were migrating before, during and after the event, according to a new study.

The explosive event, which was estimated to be 5,000 times more massive than the 1980 Mount St. Helens eruption, is thought to have created a volcanic winter that impacted the spread of ancient humans.

While there's no hard evidence, the volcanic winter is estimated to have lasted between six and ten years, followed by a reduction in global temperatures for about a thousand years beyond that. If true, this would have devastated humans, human ancestors and animal populations across Asia.

Minnesota man seeks to toss his murder conviction Sen. Amy Klobuchar stood behind for 17 years

ABC News

A Minneapolis inmate who spent more than half his life so far behind bars says he was wrongfully convicted for murder and blames presidential candidate Sen. Amy Klobuchar, in part, for standing by what he calls an injustice.

Myon Burrell, now 33, was convicted for the 2002 first-degree murder of 11-year-old Tyesha Edwards, who was shot by a stray bullet as she was doing homework inside her house. Burrell, who was 16 when he was arrested, as well as Hans Williams and Ike Tyson, two men in their early 20s at the time and not previously known to Burrell, were convicted and sentenced the following year.

“I could put in an appeal and say, hey, listen, give me less time and let me out right now. But then I would be taking responsibility for a crime I didn't commit. And I can never do that," Burrell said in a jailhouse interview with ABC News Live anchor Linsey Davis.

In May of 2003, a jury convicted Burrell of first degree murder. Klobuchar was no longer in the prosecutor’s office when Burrell was convicted a second time in 2008, but she has boasted her record as a "tough on crime" prosecutor while running for the U.S. Senate in 2006.

Two NC Democrats in Congress already picked Biden. Now David Price makes his choice.

News & Observer

North Carolina’s three Democratic U.S. House members are in agreement: They’re all backing former Vice President Joe Biden in the presidential primary.

U.S. Rep. David Price, of Chapel Hill, endorsed Biden on Tuesday morning after voting early. Reps. G.K. Butterfield of Wilson and Alma Adams of Charlotte previously backed Biden in the Democratic field.

The North Carolina primary is on March 3, though in-person early voting is underway.

“We’re in a fight for the soul of America. President Donald Trump abuses his platform at the White House on a daily basis, putting his personal interests and vendettas ahead of our country — both at home and on the world stage — all at the expense of the American people,” Price said in a statement.

The State endorses Pete Buttigieg in the South Carolina Democratic Party primary

The Democratic Party’s presidential nominee will face a formidable general election opponent in Republican President Donald Trump, an incumbent armed with a strong economic record and a force of personality that has spawned a fiercely loyal base of supporters.

It is vital, then, for the Democrats to nominate an energetic, disciplined candidate who can offer voters a powerful yet pragmatic vision of a better America. The Democrats need a nominee who seeks to bring Americans together based on broad common ground — and not divide them along narrow interests.

Among the Democratic presidential candidates, former South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg is the best person to meet these challenges.

On Saturday, the voters of South Carolina should choose Buttigieg in the state’s Democratic presidential primary.

Tenerife coronavirus: 1,000 guests at hotel quarantined

Source: The Guardian

A thousand guests and staff at a hotel in Tenerife have been quarantined after an Italian man tested positive for the coronavirus.

News of the quarantine came as the Austrian state of Tyrol, which borders Italy, confirmed its first two cases of the virus and Croatia confirmed its first case in a patient in a hospital in the capital, Zagreb.

Health authorities in the Canary Islands ordered the lockdown of the H10 Costa Adeje Palace hotel in south Tenerife on Monday as Spain waited for definitive proof of its third case of the virus.

...snip...

The four-star, seafront resort was locked down at around 8am on Tuesday morning, hours after the Italian man, reported to be a doctor, complained of feeling ill and was taken to a local hospital.

Coronavirus news: Austria and Croatia report first cases as Tenerife quarantines hotel

Source: The Guardian

It appears that Austria has its first two cases of coronavirus, in the province of Tyrol. There’s no indication yet of the source of the outbreak, but Tyrol borders northern Italy where officials are struggling to contain a growing number of cases.

Croatia’s prime minister, Andrej Plenković, has confirmed its first case of coronavirus infection, in a patient who is hospitalised in the capital.

“The patient is in the Zagreb clinic for infectious diseases. It is a younger person and he has milder symptoms. He is in isolation and his condition is good at the moment,” Plenković told a news conference.

The health minister, Vili Beroš, said the patient had stayed in Milan from 19 to 21 February.
