Herschel Walker answer to the problem of school shootings WTF???

GOP Senate candidate Herschel Walker proposes 'a department that can look at young men that's looking at women that's looking at social media' in response to Texas shooting.

In a Fox News appearance Thursday morning, Republican Georgia Senate nominee Herschel Walker offered a vague proposal on surveilling social media to prevent mass shootings in the wake of Tuesday's attack at a Texas elementary school that left at least 19 children and two adults dead.

The former NFL running back said the focus should be on the shooters, not guns, and decried "people that's trying to score political points" by pushing for gun control legislation.

"We need to get into what happened to him, why, by putting money in mental health. Have people thought about that?" Walker said, referring to the 18-year-old alleged shooter in Uvalde, Texas. "We've gotta get back into prayer. People thinking now praying is bad. No, it's not bad. We need to pray for things like that. We need to continue to go out and fight, continue to take your constitutional rights away, and I think we can't do that."

Fox & Friends" co-host Brian Kilmeade asked Walker where he stands on gun control measures such as universal background checks or raising the age to buy assault weapons from 18 to 21.

"Well, you know, it's always been an issue, because as I said earlier on, they wanna score political points ... People see that it's a person wielding that weapon, you know, Cain killed Abel," Walker said. "And that's the problem that we have. And I said, what we need to do is look into how we can stop those things.

Source: Daily Beast

Toronto police shot and killed a man who was carrying a rifle near an elementary school Thursday, sending hundreds of children into lockdown, according to Toronto police. The police were first called about reports of a person carrying a rifle at around 1 p.m., and paramedics were called 20 minutes later for a reported shooting. A witness told CP24 that they heard three quick shots before seeing police attempt to revive a man on the street. Four investigators and three forensic investigators are working on the case, according to Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit. Toronto’s police chief called the incident “traumatic” in a press conference in light of the recent school shooting in the U.S. and the proximity of the incident to a school. In total, four schools were initially sent into lockdown due to the incident. Lonk to complete piece at link.

Georgia Sheriff Facing Sexual Crime Charge for Allegedly Groping Judge Hatchett

‘What Are You Doing?’: Georgia Sheriff Facing Sexual Crime Charge for Allegedly Groping Judge Hatchett at a Conference, Forcing Another Guest to Remove His Hands

A Georgia sheriff has found himself on the opposite side of the law after allegedly fondling prominent TV judge Glenda Hatchett.

According to reports, Hatchett was attending a sheriff’s conference in Atlanta in January when Bleckley County Sheriff Kris Coody allegedly grabbed her left breast.

The Cobb County Solicitor’s Office has charged Coody with misdemeanor sexual battery.

Former DeKalb County Sheriff Thomas Brown said he had to peel Coody’s hands off the judge. He was reportedly shocked and angry at the other sheriff’s actions.

“When I saw his hand go down on her left breast and I reached over, grabbed his hand, took it off of her and basically said, ‘What are you doing?’ and, ‘Get your hands off of her,'” Brown told reporters.

Hatchett made history in 1990 as the first Black Chief Presiding Judge of a state court in Georgia overseeing Fulton County’s Juvenile Court. For eight years, she starred in the Emmy-nominated national show “Judge Hatchett,” and she currently headlines “The Verdict with Judge Hatchett.”

Brown said he invited Hatchett as his guest to the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association winter training conference on Jan. 18. He was introducing her to Coody, the association president and another sheriff, when the incident happened.

13WMAZ reports that Coody’s arrest warrant shows the assault took place at the Renaissance Atlanta Waverly Hotel bar after hours. Brown said Hatchett asked Coody where he was from, and Coody replied, “The heart of Georgia.”

Orthodox Christian drawing far-right American converts to Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia

When Sarah Riccardi-Swartz moved from New York City to a small Appalachian town in West Virginia in the fall of 2017, she was searching for an answer to a puzzling question. Why had a group of conservative American Christians converted to Russian Orthodoxy?

"It's typically an immigrant faith, so I was really interested in that experience and why it spoke to converts," said Riccardi-Swartz, a postdoctoral fellow in the Recovering Truth project at Arizona State University.

Riccardi-Swartz's study focused on a community of mostly former evangelical Christians and Catholics who had joined the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR). The West Virginia location, in addition to having a church parish, was also home to the largest English-speaking Russian Orthodox monastery in the world.

Over a year of doing research, Riccardi-Swartz learned that many of these converts had grown disillusioned with social and demographic change in the United States. In ROCOR, they felt they had found a church that has remained the same, regardless of place, time and politics. But Riccardi-Swartz also found strong strains of nativism, white nationalism and pro-authoritarianism, evidenced by strong admiration for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Putin as "king-like figure"

"For many of them, Putin becomes this sort of king-like figure in their narratives," she said. "They see themselves as oppressed by democracy because democracy is really diversity. And they look to Putin because democracy isn't really, as we see right now, an option [in Russia]." /SNIP

Lithuania designates Russia as a terrorist country, a global first

Source: NPR

Lithuania's parliament has designated Russia a terrorist country and its actions in Ukraine as genocide.

The Lithuanian Seimas tweeted Tuesday that its members had passed the resolution unanimously.

This makes Lithuania the first country to declare Russia a perpetrator of terrorism, according to Ukraine's Centre for Strategic Communications and Information Security. It's not the first to formally accuse Russia of genocide: Canadian lawmakers unanimously adopted such a motion last month.

Lithuania's resolution says that Russia's armed forces and mercenaries have committed war crimes in Ukraine, citing the atrocities reported in places Bucha, Irpin, Mariupol, Borodyaka, Hostomel and other cities, according to public broadcaster Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT).

However, the suspect was not looking to harm the lawman but was a newspaper deliverer who the sheriff in fact was harassing. He now says the trauma has caused him anxiety and he can’t sleep.

Local station KING 5 interviewed Sedrick Altheimer, who is speaking out for the first time since the early morning altercation with Pierce County Sheriff Ed Troyer Jr. that could have cost him his life.

On Jan. 27, 2021, the sheriff called for regional backup, stating four different times to the dispatcher that he was in grave danger as a man was following him and threatening to harm him.

Altheimer’s attorney, Vonda Sargent, says this is an example of racial and biased based profiling. “It’s racism,” she said. “I mean, it’s just a system of racism.”

According to Altheimer’s interview and a probable cause affidavit retrieved by Atlanta Black Star, Troyer was following the paper deliveryman around his predominantly white Tacoma neighborhood early in the morning while he made his daily paper run and threatened him.

The 26-year-old, who had been working his job for eight years, says he believes his rights were violated.

“It’s just not the same,” Altheimer says as he gives the reason why he doesn’t get out of the car in the area close to Troyer’s home, and sometimes takes a detour. “Every time you drive in that neighborhood you look at that one spot and you’re like, man, I almost lost my life.” /snip
