It seems like we just cant stay away from the road! Neek, Sar and I once again piled into the car and took off. Once again, one of my sisters (the youngest) was getting married and we were invited. But it wasnt in Oregon; this was a destination wedding in Palm Springs, California. We decided to make the most of this occasion and planned a desert road trip!

Nothing like stopping for an ice cream sundae while travelling!
To close out our 12 day road trip that I've been posting videos of here, we visited the Ghirardelli Chocolate Outlet and Ice Cream Store in Lathrop, California. This was one of the richest, most delicious ice cream sundaes I've ever eaten!
LAST STOP ON OUR ROAD TRIP! Ghirardelli Chocolate & Ice Cream Store Day 12 Episode 31
It seemed fitting to finish up our road trip by visiting the Ghirardelli Chocolate Outlet store in Lathrop, California and having a decadent sundae. They are the masters in making the most incredible ice cream delights.
1840s life comes alive at Sutter's Fort & Old Town Sacramento
Our recent road trip took us to Sacramento. There we explored the rich history of the town before it became the state capital of California. Sutter's Fort is a special place for me because of fond childhood memories. Remember going on field trips back in grade school? Of all my field trip memories, my favorite is the trip I took in 4th grade to Sacramento. We got to see the capitol building, had what I considered a real treat at the time eating dinner at McDonalds and stayed overnight in a hotel! But the highlight in my mind was visiting Sutters Fort.
There are so many other parts of Sacramento's history to explore in the Old Sacramento Historic District which is a U.S. National Historic Landmark District. The city of Sacramento was developed in the mid-nineteenth century as an extension of Sutters Fort as the Sacramento River was the main waterway to the west coast. John Sutter was the owner of the fort and Sutters Mill where gold was found setting off the California Gold Rush.
Reliving field trip memories at Sutter's Fort! - Road Trip Day 11 Episode 30
Thinking back on my elementary school days, some of my favorite moments, outside of lunch and recess, were the times we went on field trips. Sure, a lot of the joy I received at the time was escaping the tediousness of the classroom, but there was also the excitement of discovering new things and going fun places!
It seemed extremely appropriate that when Neek, Sar and I arrived at Sutters Fort, there was a group of students, the same students we saw in Old Town Sacramento, arriving there for a field trip!

Giant Cement Statues from Weird California - Road Trip Day 10 Episode 28
My sister-in-law gave my wife a book years ago called Weird California. I thought it was a great title for a book considering how often California marches to the beat of its own drum. Anyway, its also inspired me to go out and find some of the strange, unique, creative and weird stuff that I have a tendency to be attracted to. The Giant Cement Statues of Auburn, California are definitely one of them.
Who knew the longest single span covered bridge in the world - was in California?
We found out on our recent road trip just off Hwy 49 where we found a bridge on the South Yuba River. This 19th century bridge attracted our curiosity because it is reported to be the longest single span wooden covered bridge in the world! The Bridgeport Covered Bridge was built in 1862 by David John Wood and was a vital link to the silver mines in Nevada at the time, with up to 100 wagons a day coming through the area.
