Saagar Enjeti: Is TRUMPISM After Trump Even Possible?

Not a fan of either of them but an interesting topic.

January 19, 2021

I have heard people speculating that a lot of big shots may get arrested or indicted after Trump

is gone. This would obviously make TOTAL sense knowing who is still curranty President. If I were a prosecutor I would be waiting until after the 20th rather than have the rug pulled right out from under me by the most corrupt President in our history. Has anyone heard anything more than speculation about this? Will the next couple of weeks be like perp walk, Christmas porn, for us?

I don't want to get my hopes up too high. LOL

Two big-name Colorado Democrats are already exploring 2022 bids to unseat Lauren Boebert

State Sen. Kerry Donovan of Vail and state Rep. Dylan Roberts of Avon say they are in discussions to launch a campaign to oust the Republican next year

Two well-known Democratic state lawmakers say they are already exploring whether to launch a bid to unseat U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert next year, just weeks into the fiery Republican’s term.

It’s the latest evidence that Democrats are eager to capitalize on the controversies, which have grabbed international attention, Boebert has been at the center of since being sworn into office. But the party will still be fighting an uphill battle in Boebert’s Republican-leaning district, which is set to be redrawn before the 2022 election.

State Sen. Kerry Donovan of Vail and state Rep. Dylan Roberts of Avon told The Colorado Sun they are talking with people in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District about seeking Boebert’s job. Both took a pass on running for the seat in 2020 when it appeared they would be facing longtime Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton, whom Boebert shockingly knocked out in last year’s primary.

New Colorado congresswoman has history of associating with militias

Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (R) bragged about the militia. And this month, her supporters stormed the Capitol. She's scrubbed away evidence of those ties.

DENVER — In December 2019, fresh into her campaign to represent Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District, Lauren Boebert posed for a photo with a group of gun rights advocates in front of the Colorado state Capitol. Behind her, four men flashed gestures with three fingers, a hand signal associated the Three Percenters, an extremist militia group.

That photo recently resurfaced, with some people falsely claiming it was taken outside the U.S. Capitol before a violent insurrection on Jan. 6. Fact-checkers very quickly dispelled that misinformation.

But the photo represents part of a pattern of Boebert’s interactions and rhetoric surrounding militias and other extremist groups.

This past weekend, a Woodland Park man was arrested for assaulting a police officer during the insurrection. Investigators wrote that Robert Gieswein, 24, had an apparent connection with the Three Percenters group, along with running his own paramilitary group called the Woodland Wild Dogs.

In November 2018, Gieswein posted a photo of himself and three other men posing outside Boebert’s Shooters Grill in Rifle, seen in a screenshot obtained by a Daily Beast reporter before Gieswein’s account was deleted following the federal charges. All four of the men are flashing the same hand signal, and Gieswien appears in the photo holding a rifle. The staff at Shooters Grill open carry firearms, a move encouraged by Boebert, a fervent supporter of gun rights.

Some interesting back story about Garth Brooks song "We shall be free"

Brooks will be one of the artists to perform at Biden's inauguration and turned down Trump's invitation to sing at his. Not a lot of people know this but his song "We Shall Be Free" was written in response to the L.A. Riots.

In 1993 Garth almost didn’t sing The National Anthem at the Super Bowl because he had made a deal with NBC for them to play his song "We Shall Be Free" in response to the L.A. Riots which deeply moved him as he was in L.A. when they occurred. Brooks knew how many people were watching the Super Bowl. As the story goes, about 45 minutes prior to him singing, they informed him the video “We Shall Be Free” was too controversial – with clips of the KKK, riots in LA, etc.

Garth was so upset because the song meant so much to him at the time, he took off his boots and was leaving the stadium. Executives argued back and forth and eventually ran the video. This marked two firsts for the Super Bowl.

It was the first time a game was delayed because it took them so long to decide. They delayed the start of the game for the first time in history to air the video.

It was the last time artists were allowed to sing the anthem live. They now have a policy that the national anthem has to be pre-recorded.

I added some text above because I saw him interviewed about this and he went into a lot of detail about being upset by black oppression and wanted to try to touch people and make them think in the spirit of MLK Jr.

So I won't be surprised if he plays this song again at Biden's inauguration. Link to an article that partly covers what I have above: https://www.wccq.com/garth-almost-didnt-sing-the-national-anthem-at-1993-superbowl/

A few more details about Boebert's tour in this CNN article

So Cohen saw her with a large group going through the Cannon House Building tunnel. Other senators probably saw her in the Capitol Building as the tunnel attaches to it. I doubt they went into the tunnel and then turned around.

Anyone been on one of these tours?

Here is a map of the complex and tunnels:

Democratic lawmaker accuses Boebert of giving tours prior to insurrection
By Jim Sciutto, Ryan Nobles and Annie Grayer, CNN

Updated 6:09 PM ET, Mon January 18, 2021

(CNN)Democratic Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee said that he and a fellow lawmaker personally saw Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado guiding a group of people through the Cannon House Office Building tunnel in the days leading up the Capitol insurrection on January 6.

Cohen's accusation is significant because it is the first time a member of Congress has specifically accused another member of giving a tour of the Capitol complex prior to the riot. It comes after several Democratic members have suggested that their Republican colleagues may have been providing the tours as an opportunity for the would-be rioters to get the lay of the land ahead of a planned insurrection.
"Only thing that I've seen, Congressman Yarmuth refreshed my recollection yesterday. We saw (Rep.) Boebert taking a group of people for a tour sometime after the 3rd and before the 6th. I don't remember the day we were walking in a tunnel and we saw her and commented who she was and she had a large group with her. Now whether these people were people that were involved in the insurrection or not, I do not know," Cohen told "CNN Newsroom."

Lauren Boebert Said She Didn't Give Insurrectionists (Or Anyone Else) A Tour Of The U.S. Capitol

Well, someone is lying. Wonder who it could be? LOL I'm guessing the person who has been arrested a number of times and doesn't show up in court.

A fellow member of Congress on Monday said that he had seen Rep. Lauren Boebert giving a tour to a large group of people in the days before the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. He did not accuse her of any wrongdoing, but Boebert has said that his statement was false nonetheless.

"We saw Congressman Boebert taking a group of people for a tour sometime after the third and the sixth (of January). I don't remember the date," said Rep. Steve Cohen, a Democrat from Tennessee, in a CNN appearance on Monday morning.

Cohen said he didn't have any evidence that the tour group was doing anything nefarious or that its members were involved in the breach of the Capitol on Jan. 6.

Boebert has explicitly denied that she gave any tour whatsoever through the Capitol in that timeframe.

The uproar is part of a broader, unsubstantiated allegation that insiders, supposedly including members of Congress, played a role in the security breach that forced elected officials to scramble for cover and left multiple people dead.
