hedgehog's JournalI'm looking for a bit more incentive -
Some years back, Land's End had a create your own model app that allowed you to input your measurements, then see how their clothes would look on you. Has anyone seen such an app that would allow you to see what you'd like like at different weights?
In 1915, I could buy a Model T for $440 ($10,000 in 2013 dollars),
now, because of "minimum safety standards" "For my own good" like four wheel brakes, "safety glass", seat belts, crashworthiness standards, etc, I have to pay upwards of $30,000 to buy a new car!
Thanks, Obama!
( Inspired by all the posts complaining about the elimination of cheap albeit worthless health insurance policies under Obamacare.)
Time for my annual effort to communicate with the dogs:
"It's too cold outside for you to sit on the porch with the door to the house open."
This is a hard concept to get across. They can sit on the unheated covered porch, but they also want to have the door wide open while they do it. They can scratch the door open unless I use the dead bolt, and the dead bolt is a pain in the neck because we use that door a lot.
Question: if Rupert Murdoch's News of the World was tagged for tapping every phone in England,
do we know that Fox News hasn't been doing the same?
Maybe I missed this story, or maybe Fox doesn't bother with wire taps because they make shit up, anyways.
Grandparents looking for Christmas gifts? My daughter just posted some suggestions:
her in-laws asked what she wanted most for the little one, and she suggested family memberships to the local zoo and museums.
Oh, rental DVD, how you taunt me!
Why do they always freeze at the last 10 minutes of the movie!
Has anyone found out what 250 million AMericans are infected with ?

GMO crops - why is it that discussions tend to focus on the unimportant question:
Most discussions I've seen come down to one question: are GMO foods poisonous?
Given the ubiquity if GMO crops in the US, I think it's safe to say that GMO foods aren't immediately poisonous in the same sense as cyanide or even lead. I would like to see a study examining whether GMO foods have more subtle effects; say on metabolism. But still, any harmful effects from the consumption of GMO crops are easily eliminated by not eating them.
The more harmful and harder to repair possible damages from GMO crops are what happens in the environment. Do GMO crops disrupt food chains? Do they spread genes from where we want them to where we don't want them? Do they threaten some species and encourage others? Does the use of GMO crops encourage practices such as the use of herbicides which themselves may be harmful? Does the use of GMO crops discourage research into and use of alternate methods of increasing harvests that would enhance, not harm the environment?
