Report: Washington hospitals stingy with charity care, with language barrier an issue

The CLS report reinforces Ferguson’s claims about faulty charity care. Hospitals make it hard for some patients to get assistance by not following the law’s eligibility requirements. And they’re billing patients, sometimes aggressively, for care that should be free or discounted, according to the report.

“I hope the industry is paying attention to this,” Ferguson said of his lawsuit.

The industry definitely is, and has been for a while, said Cassie Sauer, president of the Washington State Hospital Association (WSHA).

It’s evident in a new one-page application, available in multiple languages, that 91 of the state’s 99 hospitals have agreed to use for charity care, she said.

The hospital association has also convened focus groups to better understand what obstacles patients see. “It’s certainly ongoing work,” Sauer said.

Feinstein vows there will be a public Donald Trump Jr. hearing 'come hell or high water

(CNN) Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate judiciary committee, said Monday she expects Donald Trump Jr. to return to the Senate at some point for a public hearing about his meeting last year with a Russian lawyer and others.

Trump Jr. was interviewed by Senate judiciary staff for close to four hours last week. Asked if she expected Trump Jr. to return, Feinstein told CNN, "I do -- come hell or high water."

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, who has amped up his committee's investigation of Russian interference in the US elections, was noncommittal on Tuesday when asked about the possibility of a public hearing.

Washington state AG Bob Ferguson says states to sue Trump over DACA

I am watching the livecast right now, I'm very impressed with both our AG Ferguson AND Governor Inslee--Inslee is pissed! He's calling Trump out all over the place! WOOT!

Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson announced Wednesday that 11 states, including Washington, as well as the District of Columbia, are suing the Trump administration over its decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and its protections for young immigrants.

Ferguson said the end of DACA is part of a “dark time for our country.”

At a morning news conference in Seattle, Ferguson said a lawsuit would be filed “any minute” in New York. He called President Donald Trump’s decision arbitrary and capricious and asserted that race played a role in the administration’s decision to end the program.“lf Dreamers were white, does anybody really think the president would have acted on DACA the way he did?”

The lawsuit follows Tuesday’s announcement by U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions that the Trump administration would end DACA, established in 2012 by President Barack Obama to protect people brought into the U.S. illegally as children.

Sessions announced an “orderly, lawful wind down” over the next six months of the program that gives renewable two-year work permits to qualifying undocumented immigrants. Nationwide, the program offers protection from deportation to 800,000 young people. In Washington state, nearly 18,000 people have been approved as of March.

Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson Vows to Sue Trump if He Ends DACA

So proud of my AG--again

Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson on Monday promised to sue President Trump if he ends Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, the Obama-era program that protects some undocumented youth from deportation.

Ferguson's statement came shortly after reports that Trump is seriously considering ending the program with a six-month delay for Congress to come up with a replacement.

“If President Trump follows through on his reported decision to cancel DACA after a six-month delay, the Washington Attorney General's Office will file suit to halt this cruel and illegal policy and defend DACA recipients,” Ferguson said, using the name associated with immigrants who qualify for DACA. About 19,000 DACA recipients live in Washington State. To qualify for DACA, an immigrant must have arrived in the United States before 2007 and his or her 16th birthday.

Ferguson joined New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman in vowing a challenge to Trump over DACA. In his statement, Ferguson said, "we expect to be joined by other states in this action."
