Poll: Clinton narrowly leads Trump in New Jersey

A week before voters in New Jersey head to the polls for their parties' respective primaries, Hillary Clinton is clinging to a single-digit lead over likely general election opponent Donald Trump, according to results of a Monmouth University poll released Tuesday.

Matched against each other, Clinton earned 38 percent to Trump's 34 percent, while 11 percent volunteered that they would vote for another candidate, 15 percent said they are undecided and 2 percent refused to answer. Clinton earned the support of 72 percent of Democrats, while among Trump supporters, 73 percent of Republicans said they would vote for the party's presumptive nominee. Trump outperformed Clinton among independent voters, 37 percent to 25 percent, while 21 percent said they are undecided.

Arguably Hillary's greatest failure, Libya, illustrates why so many question her judgment

No, she wasn't just following orders. This was her plan. President Obama, by all accounts, was initially reluctant. Yes, he gave the go ahead, it this illustrates Hillary's approach in too many instances. And as of April of this year, she has absolutely no regret. That she can even say that is disturbing.

Over the last 3 days, 700 Libyan refugees have died, many of them children.

This made me laugh: Stephen Hawking baffled by dynamics of Trump's popularity

Stephen Hawking understands the workings of the universe - but says he cannot fathom the popularity of Donald Trump.

The British astrophysicist told ITV's morning show Monday that the presumptive Republican Party candidate for U.S. president "is a demagogue who seems to appeal to the lowest common denominator."

Dozens of kids die as boat tragedies claim up to 700 lives

A week of shipwrecks and death in the Mediterranean culminated Sunday with harrowing testimony from migrant survivors who said another 500 people including 40 children had drowned, bringing the number of feared dead to 700.

Italy says another 3,000 migrants rescued off Libya (25 May 16)
Survivors brought to safety in the Italian ports of Taranto and Pozzallo told the UN's refugee agency (UNHCR) and Save the Children how their boat sank on Thursday morning after a high-seas drama which saw one woman decapitated.

"We'll never know the exact number, we'll never know their identities," said the UNHCR's spokeswoman Carlotta Sami. But multiple witness reports suggested over 500 people had drowned in that shipwreck alone.

With some 100 others missing after a boat sank Wednesday, and 45 bodies recovered from a wreck that happened Friday, the UNHCR said it feared up to 700 people had drowned in total this week.

I have nothing but sympathy for the Cincinnati zoo staff

These people had to make a heartbreaking decision. Second guessing them strikes me as ridiculous. Whatever Harambe was doing, whatever his intention toward the kid, a 4 year old is vulnerable to grave injury from an animal that size. I don't believe for a second that the decision was a hasty or careless one.

Are Millennials Actually Going to Vote for Donald Trump?

Donald Trump, the petty, vindictive real estate heir who has become the Republican presidential nominee thanks to a combination of insults and a promise to build a big wall, is having a pretty good week. Last Friday he was endorsed by the NRA, on Thursday he officially clinched the Republican nomination, then Fox News aired a documentary on his family that was praised as "like something you'd see on state-run television somewhere."

To top it off, a new ABC News/Washington Post poll showed him with an edge over Hillary Clinton in the general election—an edge earned at least in part by a sudden surge in his popularity among millennials. The survey reports a pretty major jump in the way young people view Trump: In March, Clinton had a 64–25 lead among registered voters under 30, but as of May that gap had been narrowed to 45–42. Her support dropped across all demographics in the new poll, but the fact that a huge number of twentysomethings were suddenly siding with the GOP was the big news.

Barack Obama beat Mitt Romney among young voters 67–30 in 2012, and conventional wisdom is that millennials can't stand the Republican Party, particularly when it comes to social issues. So, what the fuck? Are young people actually turning to Trump?

If you were going to make an anti-Trump ad, how would it go?

Here's mine:

White letters on a black screen:

"We, the undersigned....

Colin Powell appears on screen and speaks the rest of the line:

"believe that Donald Trump is unfit to serve as commander-in-Chief"

Follow Trump with other high ranking ex-military each speaking a line from the letter about why trump is dangerous.

They don't think they're racists

Freeperville is orgasmic. They uniformly think Trump will win in the biggest blowout since St. Ronnie. But I'm struck by how the hate for Hillary is matched by the hate for Obama which is all about their naked racism which they insist isn't racism. In fact, they insist Obama is the racist.

These are Trump's base.

Trump thought biker rally crowd would resemble ‘I Have a Dream’ speech

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump thought the crowd at Sunday's Rolling Thunder rally would resemble Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

“I thought this would be like Dr. Martin Luther King where people were lined up from here all the way to the Washington Monument,” Trump said Sunday at the annual Rolling Thunder rally, where thousands of motorcyclists honor U.S. prisoners of war and missing-in-action troops.

The billionaire claimed that more than half a million people attempted to attend his speech, “but unfortunately they aren’t allowed to come in.”

Trump seemed caught off guard by the size of the crowd, according to Bloomberg Politics. He suggested that many had been prevented from attending, without offering any evidence, Bloomberg noted.
