If we - or I, anyway - have learned anything from the last 4 years, it is that retaining a Democracy requires eternal vigilance.
I am learning that Germany turned from a liberal Democracy to a dictatorship under der Fuhrer in 4 YEARS! We came very, very close here - in fact, some would say, we adopted many authoritarian measures here, including genocide and concentration camps, in that period.
If we will listen to him, President Obama is telling us this.
I, for one, took our Democracy for granted. Did not realize how fragile democracy is around the world! It it not a given, and requires eternal vigilance.
I am dedicating my last years on earth to this!
