When Obama appointed Simpson and Bowles to lead a team charged with fixing government spending, the die was cast. America's two most vocal and experienced warriors against Social Security, together and with a big stage to perform from. The outcome was as predestined as that of an anesthetized gazelle in front of a starving lion, or an unguarded cash register in front of Tony Soprano. There could be no outcome other than a bipartisan call for slashing our social safety net, followed by a bipartisan war on The People's Trust Fund.
A war that the President and Congress intend to continue until our $3 Trillion or so in savings is in the vaults of the 1%.
And here we are.
We'll live through this episode. But the episodes will continue until the Predator class has everything of value on the globe.
Unless we stop them. Unless we stop them.
We will not stop them by walking off in disgust. We will stop it by pulling working Americans back together, to elect lawmakers who make laws for the 99%, instead of for the 1%. We will stop it by educating ourselves, our families, and our friends about the truth: that Liberal policies simply work better than any others, history provides stark proof of this. We will stop it by electing good people, tough people, people who will fight to win. And if they lose - as Elizabeth Warren says - they'll leave plenty of blood and teeth on the floor, so next time the bastards will think twice before starting a fight.
No more golden-throated orators. No more prevaricators. No more opportunists with shadowy backgrounds. Only folks with a proven commitment to the 99% who can throw a hell of a punch.

UnrepentantLiberal has posted a two-minute clip of FDR signing the Social Security Act. But even in a brief statement, FDR can't keep from lying: he claims that the Act is to help retirees!
We know he's lying because President Obama has repeatedly said that Social Security was not originally intended for retirees:
"Look: when Social Security was passed, it applied to widows and orphans, and it was a very restricted program".
"This is why FDR, when he started Social Security, it only affected widows and orphans"
Oh yeah, and the woman standing behind FDR in the clip? Frances Perkins, the first-ever woman to be a cabinet member, who not only never worked for Wall Street, she was an unabashed LIBERAL who thought government had a role in helping special interest groups like the poor, the elderly, and the sick. What a rube!
So stop fetishizing FDR already. He wasn't anything special.

You know the scary fact that SS will not pay full benefits unless we cut benefits nownownow, or raise the cap? Well the odds of SS being unable to pay full benefits during the next 75 years are virtually nil, if we do nothing. That's right, Social Security is likely fully-funded for at least 75 years; the calls for cuts nownownow to stave off dire crisis are unmitigated bullshit.
Geithner and Obama's other appointees used crazy assumptions to concoct projections that would prove that SS is in trouble, so We The People would be OK with our earned benefits getting cut. This, in turn, would allow our $3 trillion trust fund to be handed to Pete Peterson, the bankers, and the rest of the Predator Class.
The Shock Doctrine strikes again! Fuck that!
