There has to be a point at which technology and efficiency destroy a country

I think what Gates is saying is: we destroyed your country but it will take 20 years before you figure it out

The story kind of goes like this...

First there were brick and mortar bookstores in every neighborhood, all privately owned and staffed, all with different. Then more efficient models -- corporate bookstores like Borders -- wiped out all of the Mom & Pop shops creating vacant store fronts in every neighborhood and having a net negative effect on employment. Then Amazon comes along and wipes out the Borders and now all of the jobs in the neighborhoods are gone and the Borders stores join the other vacant stores. An industry that once employed hundreds of thousands now operates remotely and employs about 50,000.

Not excited about the future...

...let's look at TPP, an agreement Obama clearly opposes. How do we know this? Let's look at steps 1 thru 12.

Step 1: join the TPPA (2011)
Step 2: seek fast-track TPP
Step 3: popular opposition swells
Step 4: Congressional opposition grows
Step 5: Congress blocks fast-track
Step 6: Congress does nothing and business as usual for years
Step 7: Nearing the end of his term, Obama begins to second guess the wisdom of TPP
Step 8: Obama admin stops defending TPP
Step 9: Obama comes out and says, "No deal."

Did it in 9 steps Obama!!!

We're at the start of Step 6 now. Working exactly as planned!!!!!!!!!! But cannot claim victory for a few more years. Darn, have to look for another example of 12 step success.

sheds light on another phenomenon we see at DU

For many, this "if this happened under Bush" test doesn't apply.

IF THIS HAPPENED UNDER BUSH, 100% of DUers would be correct to make posts like "Recovery? it's a jobless recovery!" or "Yeah, jobs, but they're crappy paying jobs" or "The stock market is a casino" and "What the stock market is doing says nothing about our economy" or "Unemployment numbers are improving because long-term unemployed aren't being captured" or "Real unemployment is much higher."

BUUUUUUTTTTTTTT...this Obama, and now for many, these sound arguments no longer apply.

We're seeing the same phenomenon being played out with Snowden and Greenwald right now, as well.

MSNBC is a news organization

They became went all Fox News in their Obama cheerleading prior to the 2012 re-election. I've pointed this out several times over the past couple of years, all MSNBC hosts stopped reporting objectively (read critically) about the Obama administration and grabbed pom-poms. There was a time when callers would tell Ed Schultz that he was so critical of Obama and he would be to blame for Obama not being re-elected. Rachel, too. I used to have the utmost respect for her. Now, meh. She traded integrity for pom-poms. Somehow, in some way, all MSNBC hosts got the same message at the same time.

Remember when Rachel was THE best???
