MSNBC & MORNING JOE JUST LOST EVERY SHRED OF CREDIBILITY

In trying to conflate PBO with *, MJ said that the public was shocked! shocked! that PBO would go to the family and sit down and have supper at 6 pm - at Michelle's absolute insistence - but leave out that he would then go back to the office and work anywhere from 11 pm to 2 am, depending on what was going on. It was really surprising that Amisha (sp?) Alcendor just sat there and said nothing.

And write letters back to those who wrote to the White House/PBO. Not everyone mind you, there were way too many. An office was set up to process the letters (they go into the National Archives) and the head of the office would pull 10 letters for him to read each evening before he went to bed. That simple, mindful act each evening is just part of the reasons why he will always be endearing to the public - he really did try and make things better. The Party of Putin fought him every single step of the way.

This what-about-ism has got to go from our public discourse.

Another thing, MJ and his entire panel are insisting Elizabeth does NOT have a chance, but it's Biden all the way. My problem is that a bunch of gop'ers, who wrecked havoc when they were in office, now want to pick the Democratic Nominee and will LIE to do so. The way the MSM has treated Elizabeth since the stories about the "billionaire class" and Wall Street absolutely do not want her to be the nominee nor president has been abominable. This week is the first time she's even been on Rachel for TWO months, or any show for that matter.

We are perfectly capable of choosing our own candidates, thank you.

This is so with everyone of their shows - with 2 exceptions, Rachel & Lawrence O'Donnell - even Chris Hayes only has GOP/Former GOPers on his show. Take a real listen to who they all have on their shows as Talking Heads.

PLUS, MJ keeps saying that Pres. Clinton's impeachment was over sexual harassment & rape, which it was not. When push came to shove, all the women who went on tv and said Clinton did harass them, NOT ONE would be officially deposed and go on the official record that Clinton did so. It is the reason Starr took, what 3 years, to find a blow job and that was only for lying to Congress about an affair that was none of congress' concern?

My enthusiastic support of Elizabeth is not that she is a female, but that she was a regular on the Bill Moyers Show on PBS for years. She was such a breath of fresh air during Bush II administrations, laying out what the problems are and how to fix them, especially after the asses passed the 2005 bankruptcy bill, excluding student "loans" from the mix. (They are not loans when you cannot refinance, lower the interest rate, move to another lender, etc. It's indentured servitude.)

MSNBC throws us Amy Klobachar (sp?) as the "female" voice but I have 3 words for her as to why it will take everything in my power to ever vote for her - Senator Al Franken. When he was forced out, she got some more juice when she became the senior senator from MN.

PLUS, Mika and her Know Your Worth shtick, let's MJ walk all over her when they are on together, interrupts her constantly, talks down to her. I cannot believe she puts up with it since she is the Executive Producer of the show. I think it's gotten worse since they were married.

Thanks for the rant. The only reason I have watched the show is that some Democratic Party Members do go on their show and make good points. After their segment is over, MJ goes back to GOP lies.

Thanks for allowing me to rant. Today was the last straw. I thought his/their show would be about moderates espousing their thoughts - there I go again, thinking - but day after day, week after week, the Party of Putin line has increasingly gotten worse. The "billionaire class" he kowtows to shows every day.

When the DNA results came back, even Lukis Anderson thought he might have committed the murder.

“I drink a lot,” he remembers telling public defender Kelley Kulick as they sat in a plain interview room at the Santa Clara County, California, jail. Sometimes he blacked out, so it was possible he did something he didn’t remember. “Maybe I did do it.”

Before he was charged with murder, Anderson was a 26-year-old homeless alcoholic with a long rap sheet who spent his days hustling for change in downtown San Jose. The murder victim, Raveesh Kumra, was a 66-year-old investor who lived in Monte Sereno, a Silicon Valley enclave 10 miles and many socioeconomic rungs away.

Around midnight on November 29, 2012, a group of men had broken into Kumra’s 7,000-square-foot mansion. They found him watching CNN in the living room, tied him, blindfolded him and gagged him with mustache-print duct tape. They found his companion, Harinder, asleep in an upstairs bedroom, hit her on the mouth and tied her up next to Raveesh. Then they plundered the house for cash and jewelry.

I wasn't sure in which forum to post this. Frontline is doing great work showing that there really isn't forensic science or infallible testing in order to prove guilt or innocence. Lots of food for thought in the US, in that, DNA testing is believed to correct in its findings.

“I was driving when I heard ‘The President Sang Amazing Grace,’” Joan Baez told The Atlantic, “and I had to pull over to make sure I heard whose song it was because I knew I had to sing it.” The 77-year-old folk legend included the song in her final album, Whistle Down The Wind, released in early March. Originally written and performed by Zoe Mulford following the 2015 mass shooting in a historic black church in Charleston, South Carolina, Baez’s rendition of “The President Sang Amazing Grace” has been animated in a powerful new video by Jeff Scher, premiering on The Atlantic today.

“[When Barack] Obama sang ‘Amazing Grace’ at the service for the Charleston Church shooting victims, it was deeply moving,” Scher told The Atlantic. “Somehow Obama, with his humble singing voice, turned grief into grace. With humility, compassion, and a two-hundred-year-old hymn, he made us feel that the evil deeds of a sick individual could not shake the bonds of our common humanity.” For Scher, Obama’s performance expressed the emotions of “what it was like to be an American on that day— to have a great leader lift us up from despair.”

Baez’s performance lends the song a complex mix of emotions. “I love her voice at this stage in her career,” said Scher. “She still sings like an angel, but there is weather in her voice now, and it gives gravity to the sorrow.”

Scher approached the animation with careful attention to how the form would influence the substance of the song. “I wanted to give the animation a human, non-digital feel,” he said. “I used watercolor and pastel because they have the most emotion of any mediums. I wanted the scenes to feel like they were blooming from the white of the paper, like a photograph in a developer or a memory emerging from a cloud. I wanted it to feel as if the scenes were being remembered… which is really the grand goal of the song.”

This video was produced by Rick Litvin and NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. It is the first of a 10-part visual album in collaboration with NYU that coincides with each of the 10 songs on Baez’s new album.

I’ve lived in Texas for most of my life, and I’ve come to appreciate what the state symbolizes, both to people who live here and to those who view it from afar. Texans see themselves as a distillation of the best qualities of America: friendly, confident, hardworking, patriotic, neurosis-free. Outsiders see us as the nation’s id, a place where rambunctious and disavowed impulses run wild. Texans, it is thought, mindlessly celebrate individualism, and view government as a kind of kryptonite that weakens the entrepreneurial muscles. We’re reputed to be braggarts; careless with money and our personal lives; a little gullible, but dangerous if crossed; insecure, but obsessed with power and prestige.

Texans, however, are hardly monolithic. The state is as politically divided as the rest of the nation. One can drive across it and be in two different states at the same time: FM Texas and AM Texas. FM Texas is the silky voice of city dwellers, the kingdom of NPR. It is progressive, blue, reasonable, secular, and smug—almost like California. AM Texas speaks to the suburbs and the rural areas: Trumpland. It’s endless bluster and endless ads. Paranoia and piety are the main items on the menu.

Texas has been growing at a stupefying rate for decades. The only state with more residents is California, and the number of Texans is projected to double by 2050, to 54.4 million, almost as many people as in California and New York combined. Three Texas cities—Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio—are already among the top ten most populous in the country. The eleventh largest is Austin, the capital, where I live. For the past five years, it has been one of the fastest-growing large cities in America; it now has nearly a million people, dwarfing the college town I fell in love with almost forty years ago. Because Texas represents so much of modern America—the South, the West, the plains, the border, the Latino community, the divide between rural areas and cities—what happens here tends to disproportionately affect the rest of the nation. Illinois and New Jersey may be more corrupt, and Kansas and Louisiana more out of whack, but they don’t bear the responsibility of being the future.

I’ve always had a fascination with Texas’s outsized politics. In 2000, I wrote a play that was set in the state’s House of Representatives. The protagonist, Sonny Lamb, was a rancher from West Texas who represented House District 74, which, in real life, stretches across thirty-seven thousand square miles. (That’s larger than Indiana.) While I was doing research for the play, I met in Austin with Pete Laney, a Democrat and a cotton farmer from Hale County, who, at the time, was the speaker of the House. Laney was known as a scrupulously fair and honest leader who inspired a bipartisan spirit among the members. The grateful representatives called him Dicknose.

A 6-foot-tall stone Ten Commandments monument installed Tuesday on the Arkansas Capitol grounds was toppled less than 24 hours later after a 32-year-old Arkansas man drove a vehicle into the statue, apparently while streaming the act live on Facebook, officials said.

Chris Powell, a spokesman with the Secretary of State's Office, said he was called early Tuesday and told a man drove a vehicle through the monument. That driver — identified in an arrest report as Michael Tate Reed of Van Buren — was arrested by Capitol police shortly after, Powell said. News reports indicate Reed was previously accused of destroying a Ten Commandments monument in Oklahoma.

The Arkansas arrest report said an officer around 4:45 a.m. spotted a dark-colored vehicle "start from a stopped position and ram the Ten Commandments monument."

Imagine if the U.S. Constitution barred the EPA and Department of Education from existing. All union protections are dead, there are no more federal workplace safety standards, and even child-labor laws are struck down, along with a national minimum wage.

Imagine that the Constitution makes it illegal for the federal government to protect you from big polluters, big banks and even big food and pharma—all are free to rip you off or poison you all they want, and your only remedy is in state courts and legislatures, because the Constitution prevents Congress from doing anything about any of it. The federal government can't even enforce voting or civil rights laws.

To add injury to insult, the federal government has to shut down Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, because all of these programs (along with food stamps, housing supports and any programs that help the middle class, the less fortunate or disabled) are “beyond the reach” of what the federal government can do.

A few years ago, it would have been a thought experiment; now it's nearly reality. Billionaires and the groups they fund are working to rewrite our Constitution to provide corprations and the rich with more and more protections and benefits, and chop away at anything smelling of “socialism” like Social Security or child labor laws.

A parasitic business model thrives on Facebook.

Some new media vampires on the internet block are pilfering content from independent journalism websites and deceitfully posting it as their own on Facebook, the premier social media platform.

These Facebook pages and their affiliated websites pose as progressive champions, but their content is largely copied, if not plagiarized, from legitimate news and opinion outlets with real reporters and analysts, not rewrite teams. Their goal appears to be making money by attracting millions of readers as unknowing users click on links or share their memes—photos with slogans—because viewer traffic generates advertising revenues via Google ads.

Anyone who has a Facebook page and pays attention to politics—and shares with a circle of friends—has seen the vampires’ work. Even professionals in media, information technology and progressive politics often share posts and links to affiliated sites such as Occupy Democrats (5.9 million Facebook likes and 1.1 million monthly U.S. viewers on its website, according to Quantcast), The Other 98% (4.5 million Facebook likes; its related The Other 98 Percent Action Fund has 214,000 monthly U.S. viewers) and USUncut (1.5 million Facebook likes and 2.8 million monthly viewers). Indeed, there are hundreds of other pages and sites like these, such as Addicting Info, with 1.2 million Facebook likes, Liberal America with 754,000 Facebook likes, and a new six-week-old Facebook page, Resistance Report, with 144,000 Facebook likes.

To investigate this phenomenon, AlterNet started a free 14-day trial from Spike to track the vampire sites and their audiences. The New York Times magazine wrote about this trend last summer, but missed the plagiarism aspect. Nonetheless, its profile, titled, “Inside Facebook’s (Totally Insane, Intentionally Gigantic, Hyperpartisan) Political-Media Machine,” with the subhead, “How a strange new class of media outlet has arisen to take over our news feeds,” affirms the basic contours of the online vampire media industry. Surely, you’ve noticed: “A video of Bernie Sanders speaking, overlaid with text, shared from a source you’ve never seen before, viewed 15 million times. An article questions Hillary Clinton’s honesty; a headline questioning Donald Drumpf’s sanity.”

I've been noticing that people are posting from these vampire sites instead of the original journalistic site. Quite possibly these sites need to be blacklisted. We have to fight tooth and nail for investigative journalism and we do not need to "steal" money (from clicks) from them. They need every dime they can get.
